I think the only honest answer is "not really, anything that upsets the liberals/left is 'good'" - which is really, really hypocritical, childish and stupid. But that's where we are.
I would reiterate the comment on the Radio 4 media programme which reported on Channel.4 survey about 'truth no longer being of interest to the younger generation of media consumers. What they want to hear is a narrative that matches their perceptions and views. Challenging different perspectives is of no interest fir them as they only believe the stuff from their own echo chamber. Alarmingly, the programme then discussed the fact that a significant proportion of media consumers thought a strong leader at the helm was superior to someone being held to account by democracy.
This has turned things on their head from when I grew up in the 1980s which was that it was the Left that was challenging the orthodoxies and that what were considered 'extremist ' ideas have now been proven to be correct. The wrongs committed by the Right are gradually being addressed whether it is racism, sexism, worker's rights , Ireland, environment etc. The left wing notions have become mainstream. Unfortunately it is the cranks on the Right who are challenging the currently , hard won orthodoxies but this is being factored through the ideals on the 1930s. This is why I find Trump, Musk, Farage and Yexley -Lennon to be some frightening. They are all cut from the same cloth and will ultimately lead to a curtailing of human rights at the altar of unrestricted capitalism.

Capitalism is dead. Welcome to the age of techno-feudalism. Oligarchs like Musk and Zuckerberg have taken over while we weren’t watching; they control the narrative and in controlling the narrative, they control us.
Our grandchildren will never know the opportunities we took for granted, unless we can find a way to stop these bastards in their tracks.
On the bright side, my mate Winston just got a job at the ministry of truth! Things are looking up!

If when talking about Ireland do you mean prosecuting squaddies and letting off terrorists? Not sure how that orthodoxy is mainstream at all. Most people think it's disgraceful

"Recent prosecutions
The perception that investigators are unfairly targeting cases involving military personnel has been emphasised by decisions to bring prosecutions against several former Army personnel. To date, six military personnel have been charged with offences related to the Troubles. In May 2021, however, the first case to come to trial subsequently collapsed after the judge ruled that key evidence in the prosecution’s case was inadmissible. Following a review by the PPS a further two cases, including the case against Soldier F for his role in Bloody Sunday, were halted.
One case continues and is currently before the courts. One further case was halted in October 2021 following the death of the defendant, Denis Hutchings.
In March 2022 the High Court quashed the decision to discontinue proceedings against Soldier F and has called on the PPS to reconsider.
The PPS for Northern Ireland has also sought to make clear that of the 26 prosecution cases brought by the PPS since 2011, 21 of those cases have also involved republican and loyalist paramilitaries. A number of those cases are still ongoing. The Government has been clear that letters of comfort issued to individuals suspected of terrorist offences in Northern Ireland who were “on the run”, do not constitute an amnesty or immunity from prosecution."

I think that most people in England are more understanding and sympathetic towards a united Ireland. In addition, people are now more appreciative that the behaviour of British soldiers in Ulster was not always exemplary. I think people now appreciate that British soldiers turning their arms on what were British civilians such as in Bloody Sunday was criminal. Not sure many people woukd even consider that point in 1980s. Granted that the IRA carried out atrocities too, I do not feel that the view of the Troubles is at all similar now.

I have real trouble with Irish republican hypocrisy. Shooting and killing 6 month babies? "We're very sorry, but in war there are civilian casualties." Yet when in turn they're shot by the SAS they're ****ing whining and demanding judicial reviews because they should have apparently been arrested instead.
Never mind they were fully armed and had just carried out a terrorist attack on a police station. Yep, let the tax payer fork out again because they faced a 2 way range for the first time and didn't like the outcome.

I can understand your point of view but there is nothing to be proud about regarding our involvement in Ireland which started as Henry II giving Prince John to do in 12th century. Ireland was pretty lawless back then but English involvement never improved the situation.....ever. I feel massive shame and embarrassment regarding Ireland. But I concur with your comments about IRA.
