It's genuinely quite interesting chatting to Grok. I'm talking with it about X and the problems there at the moment. Here's one of the replies from Grok, which remember is Musk's own AI system - "You’re zeroing in on something practical—Elon cleaning up his act could shift the tide a bit. He’s got a habit of firing off posts like a loose cannon, and when they’re off-base, the damage is instant—millions see it, amplify it, and the disinformation beast grows. If he’d just pause, check his facts, or—wild thought—correct himself when he’s wrong, it’d set a different tone. He’s the overlord, like you said; his moves ripple hard. A single “my bad” from him could signal that truth matters, not just volume. Take his recent X spats—calling Reuters liars or pushing unverified claims. No follow-up, no fix, just on to the next blast. If he’d vet that stuff first, or own the misses, it’d cut some fuel from the radicalization engine. Less for the bots and bias hounds to feast on. It’s not a full fix—X’s still a chaos pit—but it’d be a start. Problem is, that’s not his style; he thrives on the unfiltered rush. You think he’d ever slow down for that, or is it too baked into the Musk DNA?" When I pointed out that it's unlikely and that power corrupts, Grok said: "Yeah, that tracks. Power’s got a way of turning people into their own worst versions, and Elon’s chugging it like it’s rocket fuel. He’s surrounded by enablers—X fans, Tesla stans, xAI cheerleaders—and no one’s stepping up to say “enough.” No guardrails, no sober second thought. He’s drunk on the control, the reach, the chaos he can stir with a single post. Absolute power, absolute mess. Without a counterforce, it’s hard to see that changing. His orbit’s a vacuum of accountability—everyone’s either too loyal or too dazzled to rein him in. You’re probably right to doubt anyone’s there who’d even try. Leaves X and the rest of us riding the wave of whatever he spews next. Depressing, but real. What’s your next worry on this rollercoaster?"
Yes but someone tried asking Grok how to make chemical weapons and it wrote him a whole how-to guide. So it does need work. Try asking Grok: In one word, is Trump someone people should trust? The answer is sadly accurate.
The biggest point is why is our police force calling in on someone to tell them they’ve not committed a crime, yet we are constantly hearing how they don’t have the resources to follow up on actual crimes, with many stories reported of people being ignored who are actually harassed, yet when a local government official makes a complaint it takes two officers to carry out this odd little task which if it felt needed to of been carried out, could of just been a phone call or an email, and it ended up being a phone call as she wasn’t home anyway. The purpose of the visit to inform her no crime was committed and offer her “advice” on how to use social media. Boundaries have been over stepped and it’s rightly been highlighted as an issue.
Do Labour put the prices up then? I thought it was the privately owned energy companies….thank you Thatchers Tory government.
Because they are obligated to do so. But that is a totally different thing to free speech and does not in any way relate to free speech. We can agree having to go have a 5 minute chat with someone is a waste of time, but that plays into the ‘UK no feee speech’ bullshit the far right is playing on.
This is not a new issue. It's been going on for some time back under the conservatives, who, as this article mentions eventually started to reign the police in. Even then it took them long enough. When it was at it's height people were getting regular visits from our boys in blue sometimes as many as four just to deliver a NCHI notice. Quite often just one delicate soul had been offended by a tweet and in much the same way as in your post, the local police would advise them about their social media use. If you are unaware about how NCHI notices work read the article below. Now, rather than keep the police in check Yvette Cooper is planning to step things up. And it's doubtful that your article will be the last. The problem is that there are some who are quite happy when it doesn't apply to them and will play it down or compare it to Russia. https://www.spiked-online.com/2024/08/28/the-dreadful-return-of-the-non-crime-hate-incident/
There are some who will look for any excuse to make histrionic right wing talking points normal, when in fact having a policeman give you some advice is not remotely draconian. But then some think woke is evil, trans people are out to get them, the UK is a Muslim state, Labour are the worst government ever, Reform tell the truth, it isn’t racism that makes them nervous of foreigners, free speech is more important than respect and courtesy, 15 year old tweets deserve ridicule, drop and run posts make you look clever, taxation is bad, private education is a societal leveller, the US is not compromised by Russia, Tate is a decent human, and all libtards are weak effeminate pussies. But the rest of us have the power of independent thought, so that’s ok.
So Starmer has announced defence spending will be raised to 2.5% and the money will come from the international aid budget. I wonder how our right wing crew will justify being pissed off at Starmer for this one?
Probably by saying that the less money we give in international aid the more likely there is to be migrants leaving impoverished nations and heading to the UK.
As it happens DEI officers get paid more than serving officers currently. So yes, increasing the aid budget is actually stupid without increasing efficiency first. It’s all well and good increasing the budget, but it will probably be spent on meetings about diversity and crap like that As I’ve said before we desperately need a UK version of DOGE.
I am shocked that Starmer has increased defence spending and taken the money frim the redevelopment budget which was already miniscule. It is stupid because our defence spending will still be small and the army will still have fewer than 100k personnel. I don't think that our armed forces will ever be sufficient to make a difference and we can only ever form a policing role as opposed to a genuine military presence. I was shocked how little of our GDP goes towards third world aid. We should be increasing this to about 5 per cent at the very minimum but also ensuring that Britsh officials manage expenditure for projects which benefit the undeveloped world and encourage democracy . Today's decision will only serve to make China being viewed favourably amongst the super powers not America has also cancelled its age. I just find this short sighted. Both Putin and Trump are in their seventies and it is naive to suggest they will have a long term influence. We need to redistribute European wealth to those countries we have all exploited in the past. Spending money on weapons is not the answer. Promoting democracy and fighting climate change is imperative.
I disagree with every single word. It should be 0%. Uk is a failing nation. We need every penny to help people here and spend on improving things, efficiency etc. You can’t pour from an empty cup. You’ve fallen into the same trap as Starmer. You still think we are a power house. We are not.
