My post refers to the criminal charges being aimed at protesters who have supported Palestine and now face jail. Please refer to comments by MPs Asama Begum and Zara Sultana. This has been widely reported over the last few months in The Morning Star and has been subject too online petitions on Change. Please keep up....
These ones? https://news.met.police.uk/news/ten...-palestine-solidarity-campaign-protest-492800 Doesn't look like an attack on freedom of speech to me.
There is a case of a student from Bristol who has been charged and is now the focus of an online petition. We should also not forget the arrests of Jeremy Corbyn and John McConnell at recent protests which are being clamped down across the country. This is what really disappoints me in the UK. The likes of Farage are entitled to voice their opinion but when the population of a state is threatened with death abd deportation , the state clamps down on protesters.
That's very different to "no freedom of speech" which was your original post. And the people arrested had breached the terms of the protest - but the point is, the protest was allowed. So there's no impingement on freedom of speech there.
She's been charged with supporting Hamas. If proven, she should be bunged into jail, like someone who supports IS etc also should. Ian, I know you have a slightly strange (in my view) golden vision of the Arab states and Palestine. Can I recommend you read Matthew Syed's piece in the Sunday Times today, where he travels to Palestine and Israel, and speaks to the local populations. I'd draw particular attention to the parts where he talks about the other Arab states feelings about Palestine (they hate them, as I mentioned before, because of their relationship with Iran), and also the very detailed comments from almost every Palestinian he spoke with about how they long for the annihilation of Israel and all Jews. That's the people you (and useful idiots like Corbyn) are siding with. EDIT - that's not me saying "yay Israel, aren't they great" by the way.
According to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign 800,000 people attended a protest in November. Notice how the other 799,999 aren't facing "terrorism charges" as a result of their attendance? It's almost like she's moved from the realm of lawful protest into something else eh? What's the world coming to when you can't even (allegedly) support terrorist organisations in the UK. What an outrage
AfD have done worse than expected in the German election and the German Conservative party has been re-elected. German chancellor Merz has gone on the attack against Washington, claiming election interference on behalf the AfD. Musk has been pushing them very heavily. The best part is Trump is so thick he has claimed he got the Conservatives into power and it is a win for his brand of right wing politics. The German Conservatives align with the Democrats… and were already in power.
Not quite true, the Social Democrats were previously in power, now they have been kicked out with their lowest ever share of the vote. The Christian Democrats are now the largest party, but will need partners to form a coalition. They won’t share power with the far right AfD though.
Hamas also ordered the hostages they were releasing to kiss the foreheads of Hamas Soldiers for the cameras.
The new German Chancellor's most biting comment was to recognise that Trump’s US is as big a threat to Europe as Putin's Russia. I hope other European leaders will be as quick off the mark.
And its comments like that which let me know exactly how stupid the EU really are. Ideologically captured imbeciles
That is funny considering the all caps gloating post of Trump congratulating himself for getting Merz elected! The USA is ****ing itself in the arse and the whole world is watching.
This pattern will replicate itself across Europe and I think it will suit Trump. He will be ostracised by Europe and not just with regards to defence and tariffs although he will not be concerned and feels the same about Europe himself. Not sure that it will reflect badly amongst his American audience either but i will be interested when the likes of Australia, New Zealand and Canada follow suit.
