THE wealth of the world’s billionaires increased by £237billion in the first month of 2025 alone, research by the #TaxTheSuperRich campaign shows.

In other news French MPs have voted in favour of a wealth tax of 2% on individuals with a nett worth of more than €100 million.
This would affect 1800 people and would raise between €15 & €25 billion per year.
Unfortunately the plan could still be derailed, but it at least shows that one major European country is trying to do something about the current economic crisis being felt in most countries and if successful might lead to similar action from other countries.

Mmm. Some people want Putin in control of the UK

25 years of Russian propaganda and understanding what the internet would really mean has made Putin’s disinformation campaign incredibly successful. They never stopped the war - and have employed huge hacking and bot farms for longer than most of us understood they existed.

Some on this board probably agree with him.

David Lammy who can find racism in just about anything but can't find a book about how a new pope is announced. Now the Foreign Secretary. Hope he's put the intervening years to good use and brush up on all things foreign.

Note Merz comments on the US being an unreliable partner and there needing to be a European defence realignment going forward.

Today the US aligned with Russia, Belarus and North Korea against NATO at the UN in voting against condemning Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

We need to get arming ourselves rapidly, decoupling from the US and reintegrating with Europe, this time militarily as well.

We need to start treating the US like we treat Russia and China.

(Also if there is a time to invest in European defence companies it is now, cant imagine the US military industry is too chuffed with Trump).

Yeah was just reading this. It is nuts. If the US wanted to be neutral for the sake of negotiations they would abstain. This is another damning nail in the coffin for US independence from Russia.

I was staggered by today's vote.

I honestly can't see Trump lasting. I can see him having an accident and falling down the stairs. Americans must be perplexed. Time to break off the relationship with America and expel their diplomats. That would wake them up.

Just watched the press conference with Macron and Trump. Felt like Macron had beaten a bit of sense into Trump. Hopefully this strong European stand will allow the US to be the isolationists they want to be.

The influence of those in power over our police force in regard to social media posts is getting more notice.

We’ve read opinions on here about the dangers of complete free speech, but censorship and who decides what is offensive and what constitutes harassment must be carefully considered.

This is my favourite news article of the year. I hope you read all of it. In the last two paragraphs, after sooo much ranting, the key lines reveal that the police popped in for 5 minutes just to inform her a complaint had been made, but they reassured her she had done nothing wrong and she was fine.

If you think that is censorship, I don’t advise moving to mother Russia.
