Meanwhile in the real world. https://www.euronews.com/my-europe/...of-legal-obligations-ahead-of-trump-interview "Elon Musk is expected to host US presidential hopeful Donald Trump in a live-streamed conversation on his X platform later on Monday. The EU’s internal market chief Thierry Breton has urged X owner Elon Musk to comply with legal obligations under the EU’s digital rulebook hours before the billionaire is expected to interview US Republican candidate Donald Trump live on his platform. In the letter, published on X, Breton says that Musk has a “legal obligation” to ensure that “all proportionate and effective mitigation measures are put in place regarding the amplification of harmful content in connection with relevant events, including live streaming.” Failure to put such measures in place could "increase the risk profile of X and generate detrimental effects on civic discourse and public security," Breton added."
I think that is more the fault of the people that have seeminglay privatised sections of "national and international security systems." You would need to ask who made the decisions that ended up with the scenario in the first place....and I agree it is not a great situation to say the least.
Yes exactly. On what authority are they threatening to remove free speech? Elon rightly told them to go and **** themselves
I'm not. I have to say it a lot because I don't follow that narrow range of accepted viewpoints and it is a word that is an immediate go to for a lot of people these days. But at the end of the day there is only one person who needs to believe I am not racist and that is my wife
But you;ll now be paying for a lot of private kids to be educated in the state schools via tax. Might end up costing more than the 6%s they get in!
Most of the arguments (not the thug's angle) over race and everything else from "the left" are actually class based and not actually the chose subject they are fighting on. I tend to agree on most of this post however it should be taken into account just as others have said that if someone does private anything instead of state something they likely are now paying twice! They are paying in their taxes for their public education that they aren't using and same with healthcare. I do take your point on the elitism close circle / bubble aspect which is something we align on. Its a hard one to find the compromise on when most of these people are actually "paying twice" per se and thus could already be deemed to contributing more. It isn;t an opt out where you get money off your tax for the bits you don't use.
Most don't. the majority of Student Loans will never be repaid. Even Martin Lewis admits this and every time it used to come up on Question Time would explain it. the irony is that only those that hit the ground running immediately and maintain a decent paying job for the next 30 years will repay their loans and that probably includes most of these awful ambition blinded goverment spads/communication teams.
Yeah, that event certainly made the racists feel empowered for a while; like they’d won, and could safely come out from under their rocks. The tide has turned now though mate.
No, this is not about class. Anyone characterising violence, hate and aggression as somehow representative of working class values, insults generations of working people. This is about right wing thuggery, orchestrated and manipulated on social media. It’s about violent criminality from a cowardly few who feel strong when running with the herd, but melt away as bullies always do, when they are faced with the reality; that no one wants these hooligans running amok in their communities.
The police have said the vast majority of people arrested have also previously been connected to football hooliganism. I don’t know why people want to pretend this isn’t a really unsavoury bunch!
Not to challenge the first assertion there but are you sure about that statemen about most of the rioters being black? From my memory watching the TV it seemed about the average mix of white an black running out withe the tellys and nike airs And this remember was started about an issue with 1 police shooting at which point most of the following rioting was opportunistic and nothing to do with the original fusepoint.
Musk announced he was suing the European Commission in July after the EU executive accused him of breaching the DSA through a lack of transparency in the so-called 'blue check' verification programme. "Be our guest," was Breton's response in July. "See you (in court or not)," he added.
I don’t object to people wanting the best for their kids. I respect the hard work Billy has put into giving his kids that option. I do object to a nation where the elite don’t think the education system is good enough for their own kids and pay extra to isolate then from us scummy people. How can I trust a government where more than half went to private school to understand working class life? How can I trust 57% of judges (stat was higher last time I looked it up so maybe things are getting better) who went to private school to make judgements - and it is more than just the letter of the law - on how petty crime impacts community?
Woah. thats a leap. Not sure where you are pulling all Brexiters into a joined mindset there! Some Brexiters yes. For some it had nothing to do with migration at all, more that they want our government to make decisions and not be controlled (or attempted to be controlled) by EU as they do with anyone else that does not comply by their rules. The border issue might tie into that but some people it was a high priority, for others it was part of the sovereignty issue and others it was not at all in their thinking. It is normally the media and the left that try to paint right wing leaning or Brexiters as being of one mind but you did it yourself there!
This was the downfall of Threads. They decided they could not (wouldn't be able to) comply with this and thus EU couldn;t use it and at that point it was unusable for most of the demographic that actually wanted it as an alternative to twitter. the EU digital act, although sounding like a nice thing is worrying in the same way the FBI got twitter to take down the Hunter Biden laptop stuff and forced the US press to apologise and "correct" their scoops. And we now know that it was true......Its is the first step to some heavy handed censorship along the Pravda route. At the end of the day they could force ISPs to block it but do they really want to be like China?
I wasn't talking about the thugs here. I was replying about in general politics and specifically activism comiling reports tend to ignore the class/social background when making their numbers skew towards the argument they are trying to present...and the post I was quoting was actually to loading linking the class angle into advancement through life which I pretty much agree with. This is the political thread, not the riots and thugs thread. We all know from the hooligans of the past that class is not a lot to do with thuggery of that kind at all and quite often hooligan gangs were almost like a real life "fight club" with a share of well to do succesful tossers in their gangs and it was like sport to them. At the end of the day anyone that smashed into hotels did so because they knew or thought it was housing immigrants and that makes them guilty of racist behaviour by default so cameras will put them all away for however long they deserve no doubt in many cases extended based on previous histories with the law.
