The Russian military not being as strong as assumed has been the case since something like March or April 2023
The government also arrested me for my opinion - In my opinion, the burglar alarm at the bank had been de-activated
Strange as it may seem voicing one's opinions using foul abusive racist hate speech, petrol bombs, setting light to vehicles, throwing rocks and other missiles, fireworks and inciting people to riot is deemed illegal and punishable with custodial sentences, very odd indeed.
The problem is it’s an insane infringement of liberties to start jailing people for retweets and general emotional tweets. One of the tweets even started with “I don’t know how true this is but…”. Are rumours criminal offences now? It’s insanity and the first step toward authoritarianism imo. If there are direct threats to people or property, then fair enough. But some of the arrests have been really mad. Especially when there are millions examples of people using worse language on the internet and not being arrested for it. Arresting people for hurty words is a very slippery slope
I knew Elon Musk was extremely wealthy and I know that he is a knobhead, but I genuinely didn’t know how powerful he is. “Consider this: Ukraine is totally dependent on Musk’s Starlink satellite system for its internet communications. The country’s ability to win the war rests on Starlink and, by extension, on Musk’s goodwill. But Musk came close to pulling the plug because of the mounting cost to his SpaceX company. There are allegations, denied by Musk, that at one point he switched off Ukraine’s Starlink coverage over Crimea. This thwarted a Ukrainian drone attack on Russian ships. Vessels which, according to Kviv, have since launched lethal rocket attacks. Following panicked phone calls between senior Pentagon officials and the billionaire, the US government agreed to pay a reported $400million to maintain Starlink’s coverage of Ukraine. A Pentagon official told the New Yorker: “Living in the world we live in, in which Elon runs this company and it is a private business under his control, we are living off his good graces. That sucks.”
Why does this upset you? if anything this shows he’s not a “knobhead”. He’s helping people at great cost to himself using proprietary technology that he doesn’t have to share.
National and international security systems shouldn't be turned on or off at the whim of an egocentric bellend billionaire.
Its a challenge, how do we deal with a foreign billionaire who owns one of the Worlds foremost communication platforms and is using it to promote extremism in the UK, effectively behaving as an enemy of the country. Not really a situation we have dealt with before. Wonder how keen a potential President Harris would be to protect his interests given he has spread deepfakes of her. Guy is a threat, if the shoe was on the other foot we would be coming under all kinds of pressure from the US.
He’s done a great deal for humanity. In fact he probably does more each day than you will ever do in your life
Speaking of Twitter, I looked through it quite regularly when the riots first started, but the more time I spent on there, the worse I felt. Consuming such negative news on a regular basis makes you feel very anxious (shock). By deliberately spending less time on there over the last week, that anxiety cloud eases. The algorithm is also powerful - interact with more posts about football and you see more posts about football, which is a good way of escaping the politics and negativity. You still obviously get negative football fans on there, but you get my point. However, I still have a concern about the future of the UK, particularly when it comes to high immigration and illegal immigration. I think our multicultural society is a good thing, but at the same time I want our traditional British and Christian heritage to remain as the country's cultural foundations, and I worry that over time this could be eroded. Is this a valid concern, or has it been exaggerated by people on social & traditional media who exploit it, often to promote division?
703 migrants entered the Country illegally yesterday via dinghies. 703 that will likely never be deported, 703 who mostly cannot have their history checked or verified, 703 that will need housing, will get fed 3 times a day and free healthcare and dental care. In just one day that’s an additional £35mil per year we are spending looking after people that shouldnt even be here. Let alone the security risk those fighting age males pose. I think it’s absolutely fair to ask questions about whether we need to reevaluate our immigration policies. Especially in light of the tax rises, winter fuel allowance cuts and general malaise of the UK.
You wanting to run the risk of going to jail with fancy talk like that, Os? Stick to the left of the line - we will all be ok. Be ****ing skint, with no hospital beds as they will be housing migrants in hospitals. All while they tax 6% of children to get educated, kill off pensioners who can't warm themselves this winter (reduces the pension liability I guess - good thinking Ms Reeves - warming to you more and more), or we all get cancer eating processed foods as we cant afford much else. Hope this doesnt start a riot or anything.
Totally valid concern and totally being sensationalised and hyped up on social media. Also a lot of total bullshit on social media, by people who either like stirring **** or think they are more intelligent than the rest of us who look to main stream media first. Said it before, but my well being on here is enhanced by the ignore button as I spent no time listening to the **** that i don't want to. Note I said want to as it is 100% bullshit, not that I am burying my head in the sand. If you spend your time saying over and over and justifying "I am not a racist" or "I am not an right wing extremist", you probably are.
I actually think that the original post was wrong Studies show each illegal immigrant costs the taxpayer roughly £400,000 over their lifetime. So the cost of not having a border for one day was £281 million. In one day
The funny thing is the desperation to build narratives that suit people's ideological standpoints. 703 people coming over on small boats is dangerous, unethical and criminal activity. However, that is only the 3rd highest this year. Twice this year under Tory rule even more people came over in boats. Starmer is saying the only way to deal with it is to deal with the criminal gangs putting these people on the boats. He is investing in creating a proper border force. How is that worse than the Tory party who created this mess, did nothing about this mess, and failed to process the migrants already here so that numbers have bloomed? I just find it sad that some people are so desperate to win points for their "side" that they sensationalise things and ignore what is really happening.
Sides. Sure. You know - not everyone is the same in their political approach Loading. I couldn't really give a toss about Labour or the Conservatives. I just want to live in a nice place, where im not taxed to death. We may have a new party, but let's be honest - it's the same bollocks just with a different badge on the T-shirt. Don't believe it will ever be any different.
