Apart from anything else, we quite recently elected a prime minister who'd famously said very insulting things about their City and people. It's not hard to imagine how they could feel a little bit alienated.

I’m not entirely sure. I’m sure it’s a couple of things. Hillsborough, Thatcher’s comments on ‘managed decline’, the strong Irish heritage of the city/Merseyside, especially from Irish emigrants caused by the famine etc.
All a bit confusing. Did wonder about the Irish thing but don’t remember this as a problem 70,s and pre Hillsborough. Plenty of Union Jacks in the Kops glory days obviously had Liverpool on them. Plenty of the country had a decline early 80,s. Who knows?

Yes agree not relevant to City. Bit of a dig at Liverpool obviously. Thanks for reply. It was more a question about the City of Liverpools stance re the establishment. Does it stem from Hillsborough?
An estimated 75% of Liverpool's population have Irish ancestry. It probably isn't too far away from Glasgow in terms of support/non-support for the Monarchy.

I get this just seems over the top like it’s become an obsession. Bit odd Liverpool fans in general. Got a good mate( from St Helen’s to be fair) and Liverpool have never been beaten fairly since I’ve known him. Mention Man Utd and he goes into meltdown. Anyway life is such.

No one moves forward holding reasons from non recent past times to cause conflict. Pretty certain Most European countries don’t boo the German National anthem even though they did cause a tad unpleasantness In the past. Could do with another National anthem really. Bit dreary.

Depends on your point of view I suppose. Personally I look at them and think I wish the rest of the country took a stand like they do instead of licking boots. It's personal politics though isn't it, some people will think they're over the top, others will admire them and think more people should be like that. We know political debate is never going to end well which is exactly why it was such a weird thing for the Trust to suddenly be partisan about.

I don't have a problem with anyone not wishing to support the Monarchy,it's a personal choice. The fact that I choose to be the polar opposite from you doesn't point to me licking anyone's boots!!!

I don’t think it’s”feeling” they got a raw deal
They did as we all did up north

You're confirming my original post with the last part of your reply. History has shown that Liverpool did better than quite a few other places up here though, and also played a hand in their own failings.

None of that was by royalty though.

I know I was agreeing

I’m not going to go look anything up Dutch but care to elaborate how they played a hand in their own failings ?

At best, incredibly naïve from the originator of the Trust’s tweet. A bit of solidarity was built between fans during the Allam’s tenure – stupidity and unnecessarily divisive tweets can undo much of that. In short, unless it distances itself from that tweet, the Trust can **** off as far as I’m concerned now.

I’ve never met a Liverpudlian who isn’t an advocate of their city. Most of them are evangelical in spreading their love of all things Liverpool.

Wish we had just some of that here.

The national anthem is called god save the king. Its not got anything to do with our country or its people. If people prefer royalty over some ex politician as a statesman then i get that but i really would like us to have a national anthem that we could be proud of

Again, the politics rule on here kicks in, but multi-millionaire Mr Hatton is certainly not averse to using his position to improve his own lot in life.
Blimey mate our lot have enough rogues in them

I'm sure there are. There are also some significant differences between what those rogues did, but none of that alters what I posted about them playing a part in their situation.
