It depends on the age and experience of the person you ask. The underlying issues predate Hillsborough and Heysel and relate to them feeling that they got a raw deal from central governments.
And royalty is not central government anyway.

All a bit confusing. Did wonder about the Irish thing but don’t remember this as a problem 70,s and pre Hillsborough. Plenty of Union Jacks in the Kops glory days obviously had Liverpool on them. Plenty of the country had a decline early 80,s. Who knows?I’m not entirely sure. I’m sure it’s a couple of things. Hillsborough, Thatcher’s comments on ‘managed decline’, the strong Irish heritage of the city/Merseyside, especially from Irish emigrants caused by the famine etc.
An estimated 75% of Liverpool's population have Irish ancestry. It probably isn't too far away from Glasgow in terms of support/non-support for the Monarchy.Yes agree not relevant to City. Bit of a dig at Liverpool obviously. Thanks for reply. It was more a question about the City of Liverpools stance re the establishment. Does it stem from Hillsborough?
I get this just seems over the top like it’s become an obsession. Bit odd Liverpool fans in general. Got a good mate( from St Helen’s to be fair) and Liverpool have never been beaten fairly since I’ve known him. Mention Man Utd and he goes into meltdown. Anyway life is such.Apart from anything else, we quite recently elected a prime minister who'd famously said very insulting things about their City and people. It's not hard to imagine how they could feel a little bit alienated.
No one moves forward holding reasons from non recent past times to cause conflict. Pretty certain Most European countries don’t boo the German National anthem even though they did cause a tad unpleasantness In the past. Could do with another National anthem really. Bit dreary. An estimated 75% of Liverpool's population have Irish ancestry. It probably isn't too far away from Glasgow in terms of support/non-support for the Monarchy.

I don't have a problem with anyone not wishing to support the Monarchy,it's a personal choice. The fact that I choose to be the polar opposite from you doesn't point to me licking anyone's boots!!!Depends on your point of view I suppose. Personally I look at them and think I wish the rest of the country took a stand like they do instead of licking boots. It's personal politics though isn't it, some people will think they're over the top, others will admire them and think more people should be like that. We know political debate is never going to end well which is exactly why it was such a weird thing for the Trust to suddenly be partisan about.

They did as we all did up north
I know I was agreeingYou're confirming my original post with the last part of your reply. History has shown that Liverpool did better than quite a few other places up here though, and also played a hand in their own failings.
None of that was by royalty though.
I know I was agreeing
I’m not going to go look anything up Dutch but care to elaborate how they played a hand in their own failings ?
Didn’t like degsy but I supported fully what they didTricky with the no politics rule, but Derek Hatton and Operation Sheridan are two that spring to mind.

Blimey mate our lot have enough rogues in themAgain, the politics rule on here kicks in, but multi-millionaire Mr Hatton is certainly not averse to using his position to improve his own lot in life.
Blimey mate our lot have enough rogues in them
Dennis woods went to prison
Bayes prison
Inglis got away with it god knows how
I’m sure there’s more
