Spelt is, in fact, a species of wheat.
Though it is used in American English, as a replacement for the word 'spelled'.
It's a slippery slope, this here grammar police stuff, init.

Yanks hardly ever use "spelt" as past participle and past-tense forms of spell, they almost always use 'spelled'.
So as we are in the UK "spelt' is fine![]()
