What is going on here - no going all conspiracy theorist here but Christian Eriksen (cardiac arrest), Kun Aguero (heart arrhythmia), John Fleck the other day (undiagnosed as yet) and today Charlie Wyke have all collapsed in the last 6 months.
I know it is not as uncommon as most people think but it seems to be happening a lot more regularly at present, is it to do with vaccinations, is it just becoming something that is spoken about with more openness, is it the players are being turned more in to performers than players and the physical demands that brings that's causing additional stress of the heart, are we just not very good at screening for these issues and its just a bit of a coincidence?
Most importantly we have not lost any of them but are we running a risk whereby someone will not be as lucky in the near future?
Scary stuff, and as a coach for youth players I'd dread to think what would happen if it happened to one of my kids. As much as I know my instinct would kick in and I'd be able to do what I could to save them but I'm not a professional medic... Previously I've had a lad go in for a slide tackle and take a knee to the temple and completely out cold for a prolonged period and that was crazy scary - you don't think about it you just get to work helping them and luckily the lad was fine in the end - very concussed though, the lad couldn't remember Christmas when he woke up and it was February - had him carted off in an ambulance when they got there eventually.
