I've often asked people to state, out of all the multitudinous insanity, what's the maddest thing that stands out in their opinion.
Our appointment of him in the first place perhaps?
Gus was on out radar but we baulked at the £2m compensation required. That could have been the costliest mistake in our history tbh. Luckily sense prevailled and Poyets arrival was delayed only briefly.
Definitely banning ketchup.

I may be well of the mark but I suspect all of the stories of insanity came from the players who were seriously letting the club down.
MON had left us with a squad of unfit players who weren't acting professionally and making their own rules.
If asking the players to improve their diet is insanity I'd like to know how the likes of Arsenal get away with it.
Perhaps this fella might know

For me it was his crazy press conferences that stood out...He would just say exactly what he thought with no thought of diplomacy or the consequences..
That's my point though mate.
I'd bet Ferguson, Mourino, Wenger, Rodgers, etc have all said things that sounded twice as crazy but, because we're little Sunderland, he was portrayed as a nutcase.
Mourinho spent most of last season criticising his players, complaining that they didn't have a striker & claiming they had zero chance of the title while 3 points adrift.
PDC would slag off individuals though, which I have never really saw from one of the top managers since Brian Clough, who was also crazy by the way...
He said Hazard wasn't a team player and that he wasn't happy with him.
I reckon he also had a go at Oscar and said he was only interested in playing for his national team.
Mourinho can get away with that sort of behaviour though. He's won a s**t load of trophies so players just have to take it on the chin and trust his methods.
PDC had got Swindon promoted. Let's face it, hardly a massively boastful record.
My point is that Di Canio was trying to instil the same kind of basics as you'll find at the top clubs.
He was asking for the players to be fit, to train & eat properly and to commit themselves to the club.
We'll never become a club, that can take it on the chin, unless the players can apply themselves without sulking.
