I'm no fan of The Housemartins, but that's no reason not to adopt one of their songs, and I think choosing one that was made famous by a band with such strong local connections would be almost too obvious to be true. They identify so boldly with the city, on a national and international scale; their big album rams this home with its title.
However, some of you have no clue whatsoever when it comes to the musicality of it.
"It's happy hour again
I think I might be happy if I wasn't out with them
And they're happy it's a lovely place to be
Happy that the fire is real the barman is a she"
Imagine several thousand people trying to sing the words to that, all in unison. There are too many words/syllables crammed together; it's hard enough for a solo singer to deliver with the correct meter and scansion, never mind a choir.
Caravan Of Love should have been a no-brainer, but we didn't have enough brain between us to make it work. It was even made famous as an a capella version!
(And before anyone chimes in - yes, I know they didn't write it, but most people are more familiar with their version).
