It was actually Hull City Hall where they supported them, on Sat 15th Decemember 1979 and the place got a bit trashed (fire extiingishers set off etc). Stu didn't wear glasses (and still doesn't) Paul Denman has actually posted on here a few times, under the name Vicious Tiger.
I was thinking of that night in March 79 at HCFE.I was in the dressing room with them at Cott Rd as I knew some of them. Sam the singer, Col the drummer, big Andy B on bass and SM on sax. Had a chat with Ray Burns about Johnny Moped too. I must have been hallucinating though.
The singer's called Kieran and the bass player's Bill, but they did apparently also play Hull Uni in March '79. After they split up, they became Moscow. Then after that the singer (Keiran) and drummer (Jez) formed a new band called Session Two, in which I played the guitar (with Chris Lea from Hornsea on bass). They're now playing again as Moscow For Pleasure (and Stu is currently touring with his new jazz band Twin Danger).
The Damned played the University in Autumn 1977 supported by the Dead Boys. (Note: Stiv Bators is now officially a dead boy). A week later it was the Adverts supported by Steel Pulse. Then the Damned came back to HCFE on Cott Rd in March 79 supported by the original Odds. It was the night the brother of a prominent poster on CI glassed someone and went down for it. Then the Damned came back in December 79 to the City Hall where it went off big time as a coachload of punks from Borough clashed with our local toughs.
Yeah he was there at the weekend in one of them Russian hats with the ear flaps, when it was ridiculously hot.
Remember The odds and that SM played the Sax in that band, also the drummer Colin Brockwell I think ,was a blonde hunk , however I did think SM wore glasses .
Looks like you're hallucinating too Citygirl. SM rocked a sort of AWB/Leo Sayer/Saturday Night Fever look in those Beverley Becks. Then he hipped up. Their signature song was the catchy "Saturday Night". They boarded the Power Pop bus which was soon overtaken by the New Wave indie juggernaut.
I don't understand gravity me. What's with the hard hats? What's going to clonk her on the head when she's on top of the bridge tower? It'd be useless if she fell off. One group at the bottom wore hard hats, t'other one didn't. Do they know something about the structure we should know?
I was working on the bar that night - someone got a glass in their face - it all went off when everyone was pogoing
i was at a dammed gig at uni when there was a bomb scare.we all got evauated.musta been the same time
Always thought this would make a great football song. Written by Hull's Mike Waterson, it's simple, unique but unfortunately not well known.
As I remember we got evacuated because Rat Scabies set fire to his drums and the fire alarm went off. Also remember Captain Sensible doing an interesting version of Ballroom Blitz at the end
