I think the problem at the N&N (and I suspect in other places) is a simple lack of beds. My mum works up there, and in all the outpatient areas she's worked in, it's a nightmare trying to get a patient a bed for the night if things don't go as smoothly as desired. Patients can often be sent home earlier than is medically-ideal because they simply don't have a bed for them. Not so long ago they erected an emergency tent to handle the extra patients they had on a particularly busy day. That tent is only meant for use in extraordinary circumstances like a plane crash, so it's pretty worrying they're being forced to use it on a slightly above-average day.

For a relatively new hospital, the infrastructure just isn't there. Really smacks of short-sightedness in the planning, or lack of funding (or a combination)

Dear all I cannot make too many comments about the individual cases here in this thread but as you can guess I have a lot of care experience mostly in the NHS and it is sad to hear of any person who has had what they see as poor standards of care.

There are complaints procedures people should follow if they feel the quality of care they have received has been poor and I would strongly encourage people to do that if they have not done so already.

All I can say is there are many standards set for staff and all involved in caring for patients at any level, which are regularly inspected by organisations such as the Care Quality Commission, who you can also contact.

We encourage patients to complain because it is the only way things will change - too much red tape and concern with assessing every single aspect of the person's experience in hospital rather than simply doing medicine. Our nurses tend to spend more time filling in forms rather than attending to patients.

And then you hear of monumental **** ups like this one: http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/sep/18/nhs-records-system-10bn

Infuriates the hell out of me as the NHS should still be the envy of the world. I don't think it's a concept though Thurnby! Been around for 60 odd years.

I did say 'was' a great concept, I think we know that my other comments relate to the actuality of it.

Which has been done, not heard a word yet not even acknowledgement which is pretty poor in itself. But a complaint process doesn't help someone get treatment.

Point is really you shouldn't need to complain to be taken seriously that you are ill.

I should have added I popped out for a bit Thursday as hadn't been feeling too bad so dropped sick note in at work only took an hour. Got home went to bed and spent all night rolling around in pain and nearly told wife to call an ambulance.

Won't be making that mistake again staying in bed till Monday now hope doesn't make me that I'll getting to scan...

    Fingers crossed

Cheers fellas, cromer hospital was so so nice was in there 15 mins in total brilliant service.

Laid down for scan she poked it about after a minute she focused in where the pain is worst without being told and took lots of pics, had me laying on my side to get shots from the back.

Blooming hurt as she was really digging the scanner in between my lower ribs.

Upshot is she now writes report and I wait till GP gets it (by Friday) she didn't say she saw anything but she also didn't say everything was ok, whether that means anything I don't know...

Meanwhile GP has give me another 90 dihydrocodeine tabs :O

Feeling very weary now just want answer whether that's the ultrasound is unclear all the way to you're in big trouble lol.

Dr will phone if result back before apt booked Friday morning <GULP>

Glad you had a good (ish) visit to our fine little town - shame it wasn't under more pleasurable circumstances. Hopefully next time you visit, it will be <ok>

Agree you should not get bad care and it must be dealt with. They should get back to you within the designated time scales. You would think following the Mid Staffs enquiry hospital staff would be clear on the issues. So many things are in place such as NHS values, professionalism charters... I could go , but fundamentally a culture must change, both with individual staff and management. The time has come to ask what do we want from our NHS and is it time to review?

Glad to see another hospital is getting it right and hope you get sorted soon. Keep the pressure on them, which I know can seem frustrating but it's the only way to influence change.

I sent another complaint in seems the complaint form on their website - doesn't work.

Genius! Got quick acknowledgement today, also forwarded a copy to Norman Lamb .

Thanks for reply, that's why u complain so doesn't happen to someone else isn't it. To be honest my problem really was is was a 37 year old I amongst a ward of mostly old boys in their 80s easy to see where the time & attention was going to go rightly or wrongly.

One day down, crapping myself waiting for results now Arrrgh. If they'd done this and n&n I'd have had answer the same day 2 weeks ago :-( oh well....

Phoned GP yesterday, reception told me notes say nothing of note on scan.

To say I'm gutted is an understatement. I spoke to duty doc and he didn't fill me with confidence. Basically got after lots if beating around the bush well you might as well get used to it because we're probably not going to find a cause.

I can't live like this though constant pain despite taking high strength painkillers and I can't work, it's ridiculous.

Got to wait till Friday now to see GP in person and thrash out some kinda plan, been ill 4 weeks now

Cheers Dave. Just knowing what was wrong serious or not would help.

Tell you what though it got me thinking as felt so ill I've put all my affairs in order and written a living will to wife expressing my wishes regarding life support, resuscitation and of course organ donation. She largely knows anyway but with everything being a high emotion rollercoaster I figured having it all written down was a good idea.
