Sorry this is not football related but just spent 4 days in NNUH and how disgusted I am with my treatment and how short staffed the wards are now.

Knew there'd been cuts but hadn't realised like the majority I guess how bad things are. Very sad to see how bad things are getting in the NHS.
 
Hope you are on the mend now Rich. I'm afraid things are only going to get worse until we -- the general public -- accept that the NHS is in terminal decline and that it is time to slaughter the sacred cow and build anew with a different funding model which will inevitably involve central funding being substantially supplemented by private health insurance. How many avoidable deaths, how much out-dated treatment, and how much unnecessary timewasting are we going to put up with before we finally say "It cannot go on like this?" <ok>
 
It's very telling that despite lots of countries having their own state funded medical care no country has taken up the NHS model.
We need to start with a blank sheet of paper just saying "free at point of use" and nothing else.

Nothing would change for the great unwashed anyway, compulsory health insurance for those of us who work for a living rather than sitting on our fat backsides doing nowt would pay for their treatment.
 
No not on mend just sent home on dihydrocodeine and signed off for a few weeks with hopefully it'll get better on its own and no diagnosis.

Got a long complaint in but left for almost 48 hours nil by mouth with no drip then took 6 hours after that to get one in as veins had all retreated.

Thrown out of bed for 6 hours by auxiliaries who stripped bed and refused to remake till visiting hours when my children were perched on bed and they then humiliated me in front of other patients to name but a few.

Makes me laugh you see these cancer ads on telly saying blood in your urine just once can make mean cancer yet someone turns up with sever abdominal pain all they do is rule out appendicitis and discharge no scans just 4 blood tests!

They should start by scrapping BIK on private healthcare cover provided by employers.
 
It does seem to have got worse, as my daughter had both her children there in the last few years and had first class care!!
 
My brother had to have 10 yes 10 seperate operations carried out at the N&N last year after he had fallen off a ladder and smashed his ankle to peices! One year on and now he has suffered muscle wastage in his leg due to the medical staff who 'Forgot' to refer him to have physio! His GP actually admitted to him that they forgot to refer him! Now he is suing them for negligence which has resulted in him not being able to continue in his business of window cleaning! He is now being chased by the DWP who say that he should be fit enough to do some manual work eventhough he can barely walk without the aid of a stick!

Yes, the health service is not the only part of the state system that is broken. However, that isn't a reason for letting standards of healthcare continue to deteriorate, affecting the care of those who pay as well as those who don't. <ok>

I spent a lot of time there last summer, albeit mainly as an outpatient. Apart from one single occasion, I was well looked after and still am, as I require regular (though getting less frequent <ok>) checks to make sure the malignant little bastard on my voice box doesn't return.
Sorry to hear your massively different account of things, Rich. It's surprising to learn that care quality has diminished so much in 14 months.
 
I've never had an issue as an outpatient maybe that side still works better, I suppose there's less to go wrong as they don't have the care issues inpatient areas have
 
Plenty of Indians work in the Leicetser Hospitals Yarco. Seriously, the NHS was a great concept but with the ageing population and fewer working age people supporting the system it just does nto work. All a great shame but sadly that is the truth. How we unravel it and make things better I haven't got a clue.
 
for every bad example there are probably hundreds of satisfied people. certainly when i had my last knee injury i was cared for superbly, so it would be wrong of me to highlight the bad example that came to mind, although that was more recent, admittedly.

I was up there visiting last week and have to say that the treatment and physio referral received by my friend were first class and a couple of other guys on his ward commented on how good the nurses were. In the bed next to my friend was an old guy frankly on his last legs and the nurse spent a long time trying to get him few and generally talking to him and basically doing a first rate job.

Our daughter was born up there a couple of years ago and we had first class treatment during the procees but afterwards the wife was less than complimentary about the staff there.

I think that given the level of funding available and the rules the staff have to play by that generally the N & N is a pretty decent, well staffed hospital with good equipment. Whenever I've been there I've been impressed with the levels of cleanliness and the positive attitude of the staff.

Like most large organisations it is overwhelmed with buearocracy and it will have its share of poor staff who are either lazy or simply not up to the job. I think it's pretty harsh to write off an entire organisation due to a bad experience (although had it happened to me I am sure I'd be equally angry).
 
One of the massive issue the NHS has is the people medical records are still written down ad kept by a GP, in this day and age this is a terrible system and allows people to go missing very easily like JWM's brother.

Currently I'm registered in Bath but have only ever visited a GP in norwich, this requires me to fill out forms so they can post the records back to bath. The reason being that they don't want me to get the same prescription from several doctors. A nationwide medical records system would solve this allowing a doctor i visit anywhere in the country to see my records and allow people to move around and still get consistence medical care. I also don't care who my GP is so i would happily visit and doctor in the city if they could see me sooner, i could even book online and we could drop the idea of having a GP, if you have recurring relationship then book to see that doctor. Each doctor could be given 50% of their appointments to allocate themselves to people that need seeing again.

I genuinely believe that the failure of the NHS to modernise is hurting the service they provide.
 
Point is for all they know I could be dying. They discharged having only ruled put appendicitis despite every different Dr I saw saying I needed an ultrasound, ct scan and laparoscopy none of which happened.

Not basing it solely on that mil has a hernia they've refused to operate on for a decade she mow has more out than in and now it has to be done before she dies.

Wife had hernia op after c section. Turf u put same day she was crying in pain nurse said u can't be in pain you've had keyhole surgery.

When she was pregnant they repeated her gtt 6 times each time said it was borderline turned out they were looking at the first result each time so should have been on insulin for 4 months. When they had her in blakeney ward was really busy so they put her in end of ward they didn't use.often, they forgot about her, forgot to feed her and drinks and then turned off the lights buzzer didn't work as turned off down there.

I'm sure there are 100s of happy stories for each unhappy one but one mistake can kill someone lets not forget that

I'm not saying the whole place is a disaster area, I'm not slagging off the whole nhs if you take the inference from my original post I was saying the problems are down to the cuts.

The other problems I encountered were down to nasty staff they were the auxiliaries tho most of the staff were nice and there was one auxiliary in particular I put in my complaint who was nice who ordered me a birthday cake so made a point of praising her up.

My GP was gobsmacked when I went back in the same level of pain he asked what the results of the tests were and I said they only did 4 blood tests he referred me to cromer for emergency ultrasound which we chased today and is booked for monday

Sounds like you and you wife have both had the the rough end of the NHS. I think your right in that it's not really the staff at fault, I wonder if the ones you describe as nasty were just very busy and the care they provided suffered from it.
whilst the cuts do sound like they are affecting the NHS I think the problems are far more systemic and that the money was having to be poured into is to paper over the extreme number of cracks that are showing.
 
No the two auxiliaries were inexcusable nasty. They were bragging about stripping beds and not making them to "force" patients out of bed. Quite where everyone was supposed to be at 2 for visiting hours is beyond me.

After 5 hours sitting in a chair I was crying in pain and in the end crawled back into the bed with no sheets on it. I was then abused for that. Then at 4 I asked nicely said know you're all really busy but when u get a chance could you please put sheets on my bed. Then got another mouthful Inc we'd have made it ages ago but ppl were sitting on it, yes my two little boys were sitting on it because it was visiting time and there was nowhere else for them to be and I hadn't seen them for 3 days.

Idk if they were like that because of overwork etc but it's called professionalism and you certainly don't bully patients esp a grown man who is crying already because most don't cry for no reason. Lol.

Hopefully might have some answers next week as it's been 3 weeks in agony now
