Just looked it up, it was 1956 and Portsmouth v Newcastle was the first ever football league floodlit fixture. The Sheffield game must've been a friendly or something.
A surprisingly long gap between the two matches though.

The Football League didn't start till 1888 so it must have been a local friendly match. Possibly played late afternoon rather than at night. I remember as a kid there were games played on Wednesday afternoon rather than evenings as Wednesday was half-day at shops everywhere...
