150 years ago today began the Shipping Forecast that most uniquely British 'institution', I remember as a boy hearing it regularly on the BBC 'Home' Service and got to know many of the quirky names such as Dogger, Viking and German Bight. I heard it recently at about 5.20 one morning on Radio 4, quite a nostaligic if monotonous experience...:grin:

Amazing to think that five of the top six 25 years ago have been as low as the third tier since and poor old Coventry are in the fourth tier now. Only Everton stayed put in the Premier League...

On this day 78 years ago, my Mum was born. Coincidentally Neville Chamberlain declared war on Germany on the same day. My mum assures me that the two events are unrelated, but I remain to be convinced.

Anyway, great excuse to roast a massive prime rib of beef and gather the clan together.
