I never said I'd put him in the hospital. I don't fight. But his attitude would give him a right kicking. I know dozens of lads who won't take that ****. His age is irrelevant as most of these blokes are middle aged. Pub life is the same anywhere, he'd get sparked out.

Whisper it quietly, but Hacky Sack has changed my opinion a few times when we've had debates (although a lot of the time, one of us takes the opposing view purely to take the piss). Really we should just be men enough to admit when that happens, rather than take things to the Nth degree in a competition nobody cares about. BUT I WANNA WIN GOD DAMN IT!

Cest continues to make accusations and ludicrous claims but always ignores any requests to prove what he says.
He's a hypocrite, as a few people have pointed out, who scarpers when he realises he's ****ed up.
If people can just say any old ****, they can't back up, then what's the point of the forum and why do you bother to get involved?
If he can't back up his claims, so what? The vast majority of posts on here are opinions, which don't often need any more backing up than "I just have this gut feeling". The point of the forum is the exchange of opinion.
I know you think you're right about everything that's ever happened, but through varying influences throughout our lives, we all have different cultural and social values which bias, inform and shape our opinion. Learning the opinions of others, who have different influences and experiences shaping theirs, is intrinsically part and parcel of expanding our perception, and that's why we're on here. It's exchange of information and sharing common thoughts.
Of course I believe I'm right about the way the world should work, but I'm open to being proved wrong.

Education, in my opinion, is not fundamental to being an intellectual. Educated persons are academics, whereas an intellectual is somebody who has the courage to explore beyond the normal limits.
Indeed, I'd say most not606ers count as intellectuals, purely for being willing to subject their opinion to anonymous scrutiny, and then debate. If we were in a pub, the example you give, you reckon you could be as honest as you would on here? I realise you can say that some are dishonest, but that's their prerogative.
Personally, when I'm with my mate in a pub, trying not to gag on the awful taste of flat Carling, I'm more inclined to agree with **** coming out of his mouth, than challenge him to an actual debate, and if I did challenge him, it would have to end amicably. That's nothing to do with being scared of a punch, and more that a pub is not designed to explore social and cultural boundaries. It's for fannying on and playing pool.

But pubs are a social setting for many a debate, it least the ones I tend to drink in. They would not be happy if halfway through debate if someone starts accusing the them of suppressing their opinion just because it's different to their own, throw a cheep shot, ignore them and start talking to the person next to him.
