Fair play to the club signing with Hummel. Definitely shows they are listening to the fans. I’ve worked for both Nike and adidas on kit deals and it’s actually really hard for other brands to compete with the financial model and P&L that our last two deals have been on. I’m sure the deal makes financial sense but it wouldn’t surprise me if the club have prioritised fan engagement and engagement over financial return which deserves credit.
The press release suggests its biggest deal in clubs history so I think there’s both elements in play.
It must be a good deal, they won’t have done it otherwise but you can measure biggest or most lucrative in a few ways. Realistically it’ll be the biggest guaranteed payment or sponsorship. The Nike and adidas pro deals are more based on contribution over time from sales as opposed to a guaranteed upfront payment. Either way I’m really pleased with the fact we have signed with Hummel. I love theirs kits and I think the club deserve credit.
I was gutted with the adidas kits overall. Waited my whole life for us to have them and they were so basic. Some good always and most weren’t bad, but we never got one I really loved, bar the yellow ‘Alonso’ shirt
Like I said some, referring to the sponsorship and shirt deals that we couldn't get out of till now. They have gotten plenty wrong but hopefully this is the sign of things to come
Main thing is that they’re aware of the fact they have got things wrong and are committed to addressing it. These lot will get it right eventually, both on and off the pitch. Frustrating season this year, but I have high hopes for the next.
Yep. Positive signs with the strip deal and the new hospitality survey. It takes marketing awhile to get going so that needs to be taken into account but it seems to be bearing fruit now.
Ashley had to live with previous costly deals and contracts, for years, when he bought Newcastle. Cancelling legally binding arrangements and sacking swathes of people can be costly in terms of pay-offs and litigation. KLD has the family's solicitors to call on so I'm sure we won't have our salmon pants pulled down again ... ... perhaps outgoing staff have deliberately caused a bit of mischief on their way out of the door. Whatever the case the club is better run than some wish to believe.
Been reading elsewhere that the team are wearing the new Hummel 92 retro jacket when they get off the bus today.
It will have been partly due to that (contracts and poor staff) although with the strips I wonder if they tried to renegotiate given the number of people who were buying abroad? Hopefully, the strip deal and this hospitality research are the signs of things to come (there’ll be the odd blip) but let’s not get away from the fact there were a series of cock-ups which would be hard to actually plan.
The fact the club have stated that it is the biggest deal in the clubs history is something which should not be overlooked. They did not say biggest kit deal maybe we have tapped into a bit of a gold mine especially with the media coverage over the last few years, it just feels like we are on the precipice of something big, or bigger than we have been used to over the last 50 years or so. I really think the small things we do now may have implications down the line. At least I hope so.
As smug mentioned before, this alongside 10m stadium investment shows a plan. Not only that, this plan clearly shows a focus on us as fans. We have people on the board like Jones and Pearlman (brought in by KLD) who not only support us, but also are very well appreciated in their relative industries. Pearlman outlined a recognition of a need to improve, and I think this is just the start. I’m certainly optimistic.
I am more than optimistic mate the last 2 years have me excited for the future and I hope we manage to realise the vision.
