i can't be bothered reading this. is it just the op or is everyone getting their underwear twisted?

On the whole 'patriotism' debate, not everyone is a big tribalist and they should be respected too, so it works both ways. We live in more of a global world now as well. And I'm certainly not proud of everything that comes from Britain just for the sake of a political concept. Also I think sports people play for their own pride and wages first and foremost. The reason they want to get in the national team is because it's their own individual recognition.

Can't be arsed to read back but if you're on about the monarchy, the queen still has certain powers doesn't she? Can't she remove a pm, declare war and do a few other bits and bobs. Don't new laws and wars have to be countersigned by her too?

They're ceremonial, she can't actually sack off the PM or start a war.

Don’t agree.

We live in a more connected global world yes but that doesn’t have to negate national pride.

Competitiveness and patriotism is still there for all to see during the Olympics and the World Cup.

Do these South American countries currently putting on fantastic displays of patriotic fervour out in Brazil have to suffer disgusting liberals like you denouncing their patriotism like we do here?

I didn't denounce 'patriotism', I said that there are valid alternative opinions which shouldn't be denounced blindly.
