I wish they would sing the anthem properly like other countries, but then other countries all seem to have proper belting anthems whereas ours is slow and quiet as **** and difficult to sing along to. It's like when they play a slow version of "Can't help falling in love" at Wembley and we're supposed to sing along but inevitably everyone struggles to stay in time with each other and it ends up only really being sung at the last line of each chorus. Abide with me was the same.

And if they don't know the words then they should be made to learn them.
 
I disagree with Ian Wright, any player that refuses to play for the national team should be banned from playing football completely by the FA.

Patriotism is a dirty word in our country, debased by the liberal cosmopolitan Press who associate it with nastiness and lack of intelligence, which is why they try and snuff it out at every opportunity.

My dad was asked by his boss to remove the flag of England from his van during the last World Cup in case it offended someone. Rather pathetic if you ask me.

Since when has 'a nice tune' been the criterion for singing your country's national anthem?????

By the same token, France's 'La Marseillaise' is also out of date, as is 'Star Spangled Banner'

Plenty of footballers seem to be religious ...witness all the pointing at sky with forefingers goal celebrations we get.
 
I don't think the remark was meant to be taken literally, it sounds more like an exaggeration to make a point. That seems a logical way rather than a tabloid way to look at it.

Personally I don't care that much for mixing politics with sport. England are just another team I happen to follow (when I feel like it), but it's a choice.

I think you mean reign, not control. Like how the monarchs reign over Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Belgium and the Netherlands, the world's most progressive countries with the highest standards of living on the planet. Republicans are in the minority, get used to it.
