Fabinho going as well, they were already light and their midfield is nowhere near City or Arsenal now, even United, Chelsea and them up the road looks stronger CM now.
If they aren’t converting Trent, which I hope they are as an England fan, they need at least 3 in CM to cover the games. Big ask and surely they gonna compromise quality wise.
Mac Allister is a great signing, but he isn’t getting in City or Arsenal first 11, Szobozloi is absolute quality but he’s a 10.
I'm not sure what their plans are but it looks messy as **** as it stands.
I'd say Szoboszlai is a box to box, not a 10. He covers a load of ground across the pitch and gets stuck in defensively. Mac Allister is a great signing without being a superstar like you say, and he has the versatility to play all the midfield roles.
But they're missing a strong third. Henderson, Fabinho and Thiago are all players with their best years behind them. Henderson offers a lot on the leadrship side, but they won't miss the other 2 in my opinion (despite Thiago being sensational when fit and on form).
That leaves them with Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott, Stefan Bajcetic and Trent Alexander Arnold. The first 3 can all contribute to the squad, but it would take a brave manager to go into the season with one of them earmarked for a regular starting spot.
Trent is the obvious one to step into the midfield and the option that I think they will go with, but I'm not entirely sure how that 3 fit together. If Trent is the deepest of the 3, do they get the best use of his talent? Or does Mac Allister need to sit and allow Trent and Szoboszlai to operate as 8's?
