The presenters on the breakfast show on RADIO HUMBERSIDE said this morning that when anybody mentions the word 'Humberside' on air, they all groan because they know that they will be inundated with calls moaning about the fact that "There's no such place as Humberside". Well if that's the case it might be a good idea to rename their own radio station (as I'm quite aware has been mentioned numerous times).
I spoke to high ups in the BBC about it, and they reckoned they'd researched it and found people didn't mind. Seems the news hasn't reached their regional friends.
They couldn't give me any link or information to support the claim of research, but still got upset when I suggested it's because they're lying.
Radio Humberside is so called, because it broadcasts to both sides of the Humber, it was called Radio Humberside long before the county was inflicted upon us. The issue with Radio Humberside is not so much it's name, but the fact that it covers both sides of the Humber and half it's output is of no interest to half it's listeners, as other than some North Licolnshire based City fans, nobody actually gives a **** what's happening on the opposing side of the Humber.
You'd think that East Yorkshire would be big enough to warrant it's own station, something that I've spoken to Burnsy about, but he says such matters are beyond his pay grade.
