very very difficult to play against, with a great core
i genuinely think this barnsley team will challenge for promotion next season, heck maybe this season
but my whole point was
a good manager makes the world of difference, barnsley stayed up last season, but we kept our 6 points in 20 games manager, who shows no plan

They may well be challenging for the play offs & promotion, but every year there’s a team that looks the part, looks like they’re going to be the small team that could be the Cinderella & go up. The following season, they return to form.
We were that Cinderella team, then returned to form after relegation, before SB was brought in & we got up, spent heavily, went down then back up & it’s been spiralling down ever since.
The only team who’s been consistently looking like a proper Cinderella team over the last years are Brentford.
So unless Barnsley repeat it, year on year, then it’s a one off.
No one will actually know what’s going on with them this season anyway, as there’s no crowds there. So no immediate pressure, pretty much same for every team, is this season a blip, or is it the way teams are going?
It’s a decent article but it misses the key point - the football club is not run based on any desire to rebuild relationships with fans, or even directly to return to the Championship. It is run to maximise profit - or minimise losses - to the Allams, mostly through very short term decisions and next to no long term planning. That’s why McCann hasn’t been sacked - it doesn’t pay.
Good point, he could have come in and invested absolutely nothing, while taking out millions in interest payments, completely decimating our support, appointing a clueless manager and getting us relegated to the third tier.
Deffo dodged a bullet there.
Though this is often the case, the new manager at Barnsley does seem to be a cut above, their big problem will be keeping hold of him.
there's a balancing act between cobbling together a decent team and keeping memberships up or keeping costs low, dumbing down the side, going through the motions and losing memberships - personally I think the Allams have tried to cobble together a side that can compete for promotion, it's the McCann part of the deal that isn't working at the moment - if memberships fall enough they will either have to get rid of McCann to keep members happy or get rid of the players at the end of the season and buy in cheaper options and lose even more members - I would like to think McCann will be first to go because a football team with no paying members is never going to be sold

I disagree about returning to the championship. Ehab obviously does. and I suppose it is a balancing act for all clubs with finances especially during Covid.

That's very under-whelming. If he was a CEO speaking at his company's annual conference their share price would be on the floor. A lot of what he says is actually true but it's not what he should be saying to the press. He's either naive, ill-advised, dumb or a bit of all three.

That's worrying (even more so if it was true that he was called in by Rehab earlier this week). They must be talking given the worrying form we've been in (whether we 'choose' to look at 6, 10, 15 whatever!).
It seems to suggest a) he's already trying to re-adjust our expectations and b) he's going to be here next season even if he fails again this season
And once again to demonstrate how poor he is both on and off the pitch, the interviewer gave him every opportunity to say something inspiring and positive, and that's the best he could come up with. He's hopeless.
