Not Nick's finest hour, he's posted a response in typical long-winded manner for anyone who's interested...

We were asked to appear on BBC Look North tonight to answer a couple of "complaints." We declined the offer, but instead we issued this statement to them….

In reference to the accusations of "racist language in Tenfootcity" made by a couple of 'over-sensitive' people, this is our response to their unbalanced 'opinion' - which is due to them not considering the rest of the content of the magazine, as they rightfully should have done, if they wanted to form a 'balanced' opinion.
Those comments are NOT Racist – just distastefully “funny” – stop being so sensitive and smile a little bit in life. We actually did it on purpose to see what sort of reaction we’d get, to that specific use of language.
As the Editor (but NOT the writer of the article) … I’m an international Socialist myself and I’m anti-racist, anti-sexist, non-homophobic, etc, etc, etc,….. but there’s a big problem in our society at the moment and we wanted to address it. Hateful Racism is disgusting and should always be challenged but we seem to have got to a point where people feel like they’re not allowed to say anything due to the fear of being accused of “something.” The P.C. brigade have gone mad. It’s too controlling, it’s self-righteous and it’s alienating people. Humour has GOT to be allowed and not eradicated, but I agree it is a fine line – and I know we were (purposely) on a knife-edge there. It’s down to personal opinion what is considered to be “light-hearted” and what is considered to be offensive. I’m working-class, from a council estate in East Hull and I am used to all sorts of language that the sensitive P.C. brigade would actually faint at. They’re not living in the real world. Even my Mam and Dad would say things like “that friend of yours, the coloured girl, she’s lovely, when are you bringing her round again?” or (from my Dad) “that mate of yours is a shirt-lifter isn't he? Well he’s a really good lad anyway, I like him.” (The particular mate he was referring to is actually Gay and he just laughed when I told him!) This is normal stuff, it’s not offensive, or hateful, and it doesn’t hurt anyone – we’ve all got to stop being so bloody sensitive (on behalf of other people usually) – because it’s actually dividing society and it’s not doing us lot, on the left, any favours. (They all just start to regard us as P.C. Fannies –oh sorry…. I bet someone would accuse me of “misogyny” with that reference.) See what I mean? It’s all gone mad and we’ve just got to stop it. I think the people who jump on one or two light-hearted references, should read the rest of the magazine properly and concentrate on the more important articles like 'Hull Help for Refugees' and the history of 'Hull's Rock Against Racism' movement, (which I was part of actually) and also every other reference in our magazine to unity and non-discrimination. I would be the first to jump up and fight at the first sign of any language of genuine hate… but “Camel-Shaggers” is (only just) acceptable when used in a light-hearted manner. (Like "Sheep-Shaggers" or "Cod-Heads… which is often levelled at us but doesn't bother me in the slightest.) Let’s all start being sensible about this eh? – Otherwise people are just gonna start getting sick of us “liberal lefties” who don’t live in the real world and we’ll actually end up having the opposite effect to the one we desire. BE NORMAL!
I actually think the BBC should be addressing the serious issues rather than pathetic 'non-stories' like this, like the fact that they perpetuate the myth that Jeremy Corbyn is a "weak" leader, with the biased language they continually use - when, in actual fact, he is the strongest Leader I have experienced in decades.
Love, Peace & Solidarity from Tenfootcity Magazine.

(P.S. There's nowt wrong with shagging camels anyway - as long as you get a good-looking one.)
This I could have written myself. He's absolutely spot on, nail on head etc <ok>

I know others have already said it, but it's really sad that if this was a sheep shagger comment no one would care. It's literally only because it's got a middle eastern element to it. If we want to be sensitive about race, let's have the same rules for everyone ta.

Or ideally, just don't

Nick's comment to me on Facebook - 'at no point did the writer call "Allam" a Camel-Shagger. That's your own inaccurate perception and deduction. Please don't post un-truths my mate.'

Dozy twat.

So did the writer call Allam a camel swagger or not? If he didn't why is he a dozy twat for saying it was an untruth. I haven't read it but see people have referred to the phrases sand lickers and pyramid trotter which were used (and don't seem to be amongst the worst supposed racist insults I have ever heard). But did he use the words camel shagger?

Read it yourself, it's been posted on this thread.

He seems to think calling 'Hull City's owners' camel shaggers, rather than specifically naming the Allams, puts him in the clear.

It seems camel shagging is acceptable if you read the link. As long as he slaughtered it afterwards and didn't try to sell the meat to neighbours in Melton but to neighbouring villages.
Paragraph 2 makes you shake your head at tbe thought processes of these people. Makes Adam Johnson seem a decent, rational human being.

And as I've said I 100% would've cared if they'd said sheep shagger about somebody who is Welsh, they're exactly the same level of racist.

I havent read all the posts but ive seen camels in Lanzarote and im sure they are present in Saudi and in other Arab countries, if TFC had said Egyptian camel shaggers then that could be construed as racist, also The Shag is a popular dance in America so maybe they were referring to Ehabs peccadillo for doing the two step with said camel.

And doesn't sand licker refer to the sexual practice of muff diving with a beard growth of a couple of days?

Is being "Offended" now a medical condition? I'm offended call an ambulance I need to see a doctor, how can one miserable bastard call the cops on an article in a mag and the cops are only too willing to investigate, yet scrobs can burgle a house, rob your car, shoplift the local shop, smash up all mannner of public property and ****ing plod can't be arsed to even answer the bastard 999 call?

No racism here folks step away from the keyboard.

How many other people has the same publication referred to as being a 'camel shagger'?

Hmmmm. so the law is subjective and depends on how offended someone 'feels'.
Utterly barmy.

So you think people should be arrested for calling the Welsh sheep shaggers?

Should I be arrested for calling Indian friends curries because they don't mind me doing so and call each other as such as well?

Of course racism should be judged on whether it offends the subject. <doh>

Or, you know, when the comment is targeted at an ethnic minority who take offence to it and have been subject to regular abuse over the years, deal with it properly?

Long sentences with no parole for anyone calling someone a whinging pom?

Whilst I applaud your push for "equality", it's all about context, and deep down you probably know that.

It's unlikely a Welshman is going to be the victim of a crime purely because he's Welsh, it's unlikely he'd have to face a campaign to "send him home" because he's Welsh and it's unlikely he'd be treated any differently (by the majority) because he's Welsh.

That's why there's a difference in the reaction, and rightly so. Throughout the "Allams out" campaign there's been an ugly undercurrent of casual racism and I think this is it just rearing it's head, it's something I hear in the North every week (including one guy who's just realised Elmo's first name is Ahmed and finds it hilarious... dunno) and it's something that really needs to be stamped out of the club, city and society in general, though sadly it's becoming more prevalent in all three.

The worst thing is, there's more than enough on the Allams that people really shouldn't have to go anywhere near the racism angle. You can pick apart the daft **** the Allams have said for days on end without even touching on their ethnic origin.

Also on a final point, once again you have singlehandedly convinced me that I was right to not renew my HCST membership. As a representative of that group you should be NOWHERE NEAR condoning this sort of thing.
