He wouldn’t have known much about the city the club he was moving to was in. That seems to be a prerequisite for a manager for some of our fans. Don’t think Clough will have known much about Derby County or Forest or the cities they were in before taking the reins there. He hadn’t played for them and professed his great love for them. Seemed to do alright though.

Personally I would hope for a Frank Lloyd Wright.

OK, put differently then, what advantage does Liam Rosenior have (by having played 140 games for Hull City and loving the club apparently) over say Chris Hughton?

He was at the club when it was owned by completely different people. He played with players that are no longer here, under managers that are no longer here. I would even suggest a quarter of the fan base is no longer there.

All I am asking is what exactly is it that he will know about Hull City that will allow him to do a better job than managers like Hughton who have generally given a decent account of themselves at this level. I'm genuinely interested in what people feel the difference is.

If a manager wants to put pride and fire in the bellies of players I'm not sure it is essential that his nan is a local resident, I think he just needs to know what he is doing.

Clough was gaffer at Hartlepool before taking over at Derby. He even drove the monkey hangers team coach to and from away games. A one off, but nothing without Peter Taylor.

Ok, again I am not being awkward just playing devils advocate, why would Acun give someone he probably had not even heard of more time if results go badly than he would any other manager, like Chris Hughton or Pedro Martins?

I accept the fans thing, I am sure Ole Solskjaer got more patience at Utd because of who he is but I am not sure Acun would feel the same. And if the fans not getting on his back is the only benefit then I am now even less sure he is the right person for the very difficult job awaiting him.

He also knows from first-hand experience the potential of the club. He knows this club is capable of winning promotion to the Premier League and has experienced that and everything that goes with it. There are not many managers out there, bar Phil Brown and Steve Bruce who can say that. He also knows the limitations.

The limitations have been our inability to compete financially with established prem clubs once we've got there. I suspect Acun may be more capable of generating revenue from overseas markets/investors then either Bartlett or the Allams.

That inability will always be there whilst we play from a shared council owned ground with a capacity of 24,500.

How does that help him do a better job than someone else though? If the owner has not got a grip on these things we are in trouble, he absolutely needs to know the limitations and potential of the business he is running, but what influence do those things have on the team?
A manager is paid to build a squad capable of meeting the demands of the owner. He will be given a budget to work with and be expected to sign players that can come in and play in a way to compliment each other and get results. I'm still struggling to see how Rosenior has any advantage over an established manager by knowing things about the club and fanbase.

If you had said 'he spent the years he was in Hull watching Under 8s football and those players are now all on a database in his laptop which will result in us signing some outstanding local talent nobody else has spotted' then I would fully understand the advantage he has, but I do not see any benefit to appointing an unproven ex player, I'm sorry and I will be delighted to be proven wrong and have to apologise for being negative in a years time.

So, no knowledge of managing a club in the division that Derby were in, the equivalent of the Championship, no knowledge of the club or the city and hadn’t played for them. Neither had Taylor. Surprised Derby fans weren’t up in arms about their appointment and demanding they appoint a former player who loved the club. Our fans would have been.

Cant imagine we'd be at any more a disadvantage in terms of stadium revenue than Bournemouth with half our capacity. . Matchday revenue is a drop in the ocean in terms of overall revenue in the premier league.

I don't think he will be working quite the way you describe. Hell be a head coach not a traditional style manager. Times have changed.

Maybe so and I really hope Acun has rolled the dice and come up with a pair of sixes, it would be great to have a young manager that transforms our fortunes, especially an ex-player. I would much rather he came out and said 'this is our new manager because he has blown me away with his attention to detail, his presentation on what needs fixing and how he can do it' as opposed to 'hey fans, look what I have got you, he is part of our family and knows what a patty butty is'.

The only people who will know if he is right for the job are those doing the interviews and if they pick Liam then I'm sure everyone will be behind him as he comes across as a very likeable and intelligent man.

Not sure there's any space left on the shirt to have Bob carvers on there too.

Personally I think the most important thing is whether he calls scraps by the proper name or just 'batter' like in the east mids.

Hope that issue was resolved in the interview process...

I has no idea they call it batter down there, kind of logical but crap at the same time. I did have the guy in Jack the Chipper Whitechapel ask me if I wanted some 'pieces' on my haddock and chips. I said yes thinking I was getting some kind of fish nuggets until I realised the moron was referring to scraps.

I'm not sure how loving the club helps a manager do his job any better? In fact in my personal experience it leads to people being too emotionally attached and it clouding their judgement at times.

I'm not sure Pep would have known too much about Man City until they started spending money and dining at the same table of clubs he was managing. And I would hazard a guess that he did his homework ahead of arriving in Manchester but was not too familiar with history of the club before that. His nan might be from Prestwich though, I have no idea.

What a good manager would do is turn up, organise the team he has been handed to play the style he feels suits their ability and then look to improve the sqaud in subsequent windows. To do that well you would feel experience is essential. However if Rosenior has convinced Acun he can do that then good luck to him. For me it is not the right call but I am not risking my cash and reputation on it so I am not arsed.

Solskjær being the perfect example of a manager with emotional ties to a club he managed for years, even though he was never really qualified or good enough for the job. That being said, Zidane is an example of the opposite and was very successful with Madrid.

Any appointment is a gamble. You've just got to make the best decision you can and cross your fingers is the right one - plenty of unknowns have succeeded and plenty of solid 'on paper' appointments have gone tits up.
