Gotta say big fan of this and yes coaching has come a long way over the years, Just think what Waggy might have been given the training methods that are around today. Move over MBappe. Also cant understand a head coach who would delegate coaching to his assistants. All the top coaches coach hands on thats clear with Arteta, Pep and others.
It's the way of the world (football wise) now. I just hope we don't become too robotic. Can you imagine if say Messi had been told "you just play ... how I tell you". Hopefully we can be successful with this approach whilst still leaving room for individual creativity / brilliance, especially going forward?
I think it’s still open to creativity, you’ll have players that can get into pockets of space and do something unpredictable (in our case, a shot at goal that goes in) that the opposition can’t handle. We’ve had a lot of creative/flair players in recent years, Bowen, Grosicki, Geovanni, Wilson, Aluko, KLP, Okocha, Markovic, I’d count Thudd in there too as he didn’t need to do much to get the ball where it needed to go, but those players are expected to “do their thing”, the difficulty is getting them to be disciplined and play as a team player. Hopefully Sinik becomes that for us, but at the minute we really lack that edge that opposition can’t counter, everything we do is just so predictable at the moment.
I think if anything we're more likely to see creative play in a system where we're controlling the ball and keeping it on the floor, than we have done the way we've been playing the last few years. We really should be excited about playing this way in my opinion.
It isn't gonna happen overnight. But city really need a team who like to have posession of the football. If that's Illicali long term dream then so be it. When was the last time we put a team together specifically to go and play football? Don Robinson? Maybe H. Needler?
Traore and Tetteh will be like new signings for us. Tetteh gave us so much of what we have missed since his injury.
I agree, you heard in that training clip, Liam saying now press fast, getting the ball back high up the pitch, but coming out from the back it's about keeping the ball and then going with pace when the opportunity arises.
