The Telegraph reckons City are on the verge of signing up McCarthy - and probably lined up a while ago.

Edit: just looked up mick's preferred formation which is 4231, so I may cut him some slack.

As I said upthread, you'd expect a swift announcement given no interim has been appointed........and inevitably there's more..........

Bellamy would be a hugely popular choice amongst the fan base but one heck of a gamble........and inevitably there's more..........

I suppose like with Colin, McCarthy will bring structure and a formation that can be put across to the players.
I will be positive

Yes but we don't know the underlying circumstances. The bare stats are awful but as ever the devil is in the detail.
Negatives v Positives are about 50/50 to me.
So toss a coin.....
Got to give him a chance.
) but for me a decent choice for now, and if he comes on board I can see a big sort out just because of who he is.I’m ok with it - he is no shrinking violet.OK, if it is McCarthy then I'll have own up to quite liking the guy in the past. Having said that, gritty and down to earth doesn't necessarily make him right for us, but there'll be no shirkers in the squad that's for sure. Track records are the first things we tend to look at but at least he's got one and experience to go with it, unlike Harris.
Long term/short term is the big question mark. It looks on the face of it that City have opted for a manager to get the best out of what we've got at our disposal. He's the right guy to do that and with money to spend in the summer (if?) I'd back him to build some consistency at the club - something that Harris appeared to be incapable of.
Going forward means building from the back, going through midfield rather than over it, and getting quick players on the end of the opportunities that approach will create. Launching the ball over the top and Vaulks long throws are legitimate tactics, but surely not all the time? Despite the dinosaur jibes, McCarthy knows this game inside out.
Maybe at odds with some on here (nothing wrong with that) but for me a decent choice for now, and if he comes on board I can see a big sort out just because of who he is.
