Now its official, I hope big Mick has been provided with recordings of our games and he has some evening time assessing them.
I am sure he was the Sky pundit for one of our away games this season; Preston? So he’ll know our players by and large but yes he’ll be looking at the videos of our recent games in horror at the defending and shoddy passing and control etc

As predicted along comes Terry Connor. He must wait by his phone when he’s out of a job for Mick to call him to say right pack your bags you’re coming with me to ..........

Colin was no different......

Tried and trusted lieutenants.
I did the same as a project manager. Little black book of people to trust to do a job.

Glad the guy is here and especially that the club has acted so quickly and not dithered about for days even weeks on some occasions.

He is what he is and as I've posted earlier, I've always quite liked the guy for that reason - good luck to him and us. <ok>

Just to dispel something that seems to have become assumed as fact. I've been told that Paul Cook was not offered the job. Cook was sounded out along with others if they would be interested in the position. When explained that it was a short term contract to the end of the season he declined the offer to consider it. He did not turn down the job offer - McCarthy was always the No. 1 choice.

McCarthy is a tough, no nonsense Irishman. I'll wager you will get a sea change under his tutelage.
He is vastly experienced, and will be determined to achieve some positivity.
If I had to choose between him, Pulis, Warnock, McLaren, Pardew, et al, he would be my choice.
Of course, having a former Swansea City player as his deputy can only be of benefit, and is a clear indication of his exemplary taste. <laugh>

Damn. I got my M McCarthy's mixed up. And I was hoping Sandra Bullock was coming as assistant.

Nobody could ever question Big Mick's passion and determination and I'm sure he will at least get the dressing room back on board and that in itself will be an improvement. I'm sure he'll keep us up and maybe, just maybe, lay foundations for bigger change. The 6 month contract is a good bit of business so a pat on the back to the club for that for a change.

C'mon Mick

Call me thick!!! Form a queue please. I've only just got that. <doh>

Definitely agree on Sandra Bullock. A guilty pleasure, given half a chance. <whistle>

I hope the majority are coming around to accepting Big Mick. Some of the comments I have seen elsewhere are very limited and short sighted. Thankfully we appear to be mostly pragmatic on here and realise the need to get the club back on track and, in the short term, our MM is the best man to do that.

Perhaps the club's senior management are now seeking undercover advice from someone with good football knowledge?

What happens next summer is another issue but for now let's ensure our Championship future and maybe apply a little pressure to the outskirts of the play off places. <ok>

Hear hear. Some of the sheer vitriol against him is way OTT.

It was a poor first half of this season under Harris overall. He was only in a job over Christmas because of those 4 wins on the bounce after the Coventry debacle, but the defeat by Swansea was a watershed. Since then we've staggered between indifferent and piss poor culminating in that tactical disaster on Wednesday against QPR - he simply had to go.

Mick is the character that Harris wasn't. Mick is the leader that Harris wasn't. He wont suffer fools and perhaps we can return to talking about our players, team and squad instead of that bloody "group" expression all the time - that used to do my head in every time I heard him say that.

Incidentally, where is "Harris is going nowhere" Hilts?........<laugh> :emoticon-0105-wink:

It was strange he was allowed to spend decentish money on 2 players in the days leading up to his sacking<confused>

Makes you wonder if we’d streaked a win or even a draw v QPR whether he’d still be in his position:emoticon-0138-think

Glad we lost.

Terrible thing to say about your team, but in the long run it has to be to the benefit of it. Which way we go in the summer is another matter entirely.

Hilts and Masky, alter egos? Never seen in the same room at the same time.

Like Nicola Sturgeon and Wee Jimmie Krankie. <whistle>

He would not have been my choice but I will support him 100%.

Agree there Dai. I think most would have creamed over getting someone like Howe in.

Trouble is he'd have wanted a lot of money to spend as well as a long term contract on decent terms for himself to build his own side. It may still come to that sort of thinking at the club, but long contracts and big money doesn't sit well at the moment with all that's going on around us.

Take Mick and give him 100% - let's see where we are come May both in footballing terms and socially in the bigger picture.

It'll be interesting to see what happens in the summer.
Like Colin, Mick is comfortable in his own skin. He wont worry about a short contract. If it ends at the end of the season so be it. If it goes longer, thats fine
As I say, I just hope this isnt just another 90 degree turn with another in 6 months.
Deperately need a long term vision in place.

The difficulty the club faced was the available candidates at this time of the season.

For me - and I’m getting this is the consensus - MM looks a good fit for what is needed.

Let’s just get this (so far) horrible season out of the way, see some improved performances, stay in the division and have a look at it then.

Onwards and upwards <cheers>

Just out of interest.........................where is Masky?? gone mia or awol? maybe the owd bugga is snowed in, have any of you checked in on him, gotta look after the old and infirm. (no offence, zimmer frame for sale)
