Edit: just looked up mick's preferred formation which is 4231, so I may cut him some slack.<laugh>

That seemed to be the way things were going yesterday. Far from being my preferred option. However having looked him up on Wiki his career has not been all doom and gloom.

He has had successes in getting sides promoted keeping Wolves in the Prem for three years and some good results with Ireland. He also ran Ipswich on less than a shoestring budget.

All of these factors would be attractive to VT. It would be interesting to know his history and views on the development and use of younger players.

He has not done well in his last couple of jobs but there could be underlying reasons behind those.

In addition he has a tendency to speak out before thinking

With an eye to the future I really would prefer a younger, more forward looking manager but as there is a need to stabilise and then move forward then he could be the man.

In 2 (probably 6) minds about Mick.

But it is what it is.

I suppose like with Colin, McCarthy will bring structure and a formation that can be put across to the players.
Again, as with colin, we might not like the approach, but we'll understand what he's trying to acheive, unlike with Harris of late

Yes but we don't know the underlying circumstances. The bare stats are awful but as ever the devil is in the detail.

Negatives v Positives are about 50/50 to me.

    So toss a coin.....

Got to give him a chance.

Good point as always BfB but my concern is we have some pretty dodgy underlying causes too.

As you say, we have to see how he goes and embrace him as a Bluebird. Let's hope my doubts are as inaccurate as my result predicting this season

Talk Sport confirmed City offered Paul Cook the gig but only a 6 month contract.
If so that is just ridiculous. Why would he accept that?
Any idea what contract McCarthy has got?
I assume he’ll bring his trusty no 2 Terry Connor with him?

I still think Borat looks like a younger version of MM, just darker hair and more of it, probably about as tactically sharp

OK, if it is McCarthy then I'll have own up to quite liking the guy in the past. Having said that, gritty and down to earth doesn't necessarily make him right for us, but there'll be no shirkers in the squad that's for sure. Track records are the first things we tend to look at but at least he's got one and experience to go with it, unlike Harris.

Long term/short term is the big question mark. It looks on the face of it that City have opted for a manager to get the best out of what we've got at our disposal. He's the right guy to do that and with money to spend in the summer (if?) I'd back him to build some consistency at the club - something that Harris appeared to be incapable of.

Going forward means building from the back, going through midfield rather than over it, and getting quick players on the end of the opportunities that approach will create. Launching the ball over the top and Vaulks long throws are legitimate tactics, but surely not all the time? Despite the dinosaur jibes, McCarthy knows this game inside out.

Maybe at odds with some on here (nothing wrong with that <laugh>) but for me a decent choice for now, and if he comes on board I can see a big sort out just because of who he is.

I’m ok with it - he is no shrinking violet.
Any idea what his contract length is? If they offered Cook 6 months then presumably it’d be the same for Mick with a promotion (or more apposite a relegation!!) clause?
