In that time Keenan guided Oxford United to six Champions League titles, while achievements at Barcelona and Real Madrid resulted in the Spanish giants naming stadiums after him. Keenan told Oddschecker: ”After 170 seasons, I'm not surprised my name's been mentioned for some of the top jobs in the game. “In all seriousness, it's amazing just to see my name on the same list as childhood heroes such as Giggs, Bould and Adams. “With a bit of a push, I believe we can make this a reality. “I take it someone's actually placed a bet on me for the price to be shown? Black Cats defender John O’Shea is the bookies’ favourite but Express Sport understands he is not under consideration. Southend boss Phil Brown is the second-favourite, and he has described it as his “dream job”. Next Sunderland manager odds: Who will replace Simon Grayson? Wed, November 1, 2017 Who is favourite to be named the next manager of Sunderland? (Odds provided by Sky Bet) “Sunderland are my football club and being the manager of Sunderland would be my dream job because of that,” he said. “I have supported Sunderland for more than 50 years and would go and watch them when I was a kid with a black, red and white scarf tied round my wrist like everyone seemed to do back then. I have fond memories of that time and it’s a very big club. “But for whatever reason they’re going through a torrid time at the moment and it’s not very nice to see.”
Not sure there's many on that list I'd actually want. Of those there , and I'm going to get shot down for this, and I can't stand the bloke generally but you could do worse than Brown. He's a local lad with a shed-load of experience, there's no way I could see him putting up with rubbish from the players. He took over Hull when they were in the relegation zone and took them up the following season. On the downside he took over Preston in a similar position and that didn't go so well. Long term nope but for a season to stabilise he'd be ok I think. Need to clear the decks over the next two windows of the highly paid crap and graft on some decent players to the handful there already. In theory most on that list should be able to have a decent go at that.
Well were not getting Moyes back as he's just been appointed at West Ham, will follow his career closely this season, I feel for their supporters which is not something I would normally say about London based fans.
He was always gonna have a tough job following Ferguson at Man U. Going abroad for his next job was always gonna be a risk. Managing Sunderland was always gonna be a struggle. He will have no excuses at West Ham. It'll be interesting to see how he does.
I feel nothing but disdain for their supporters. One rang Talksport yesterday and said "We're a far bigger club than Sunderland have ever been" - no "With all due repect" or any of that ****e - just the typical west ham "sense of entitlement" bullshit I have been sick of "We won the world cup" bollocks nonsense - hope they fade into oblivion! ****ers
This goes back way before talksport! Can;t stand West Ham - most of their fans are utter tossers (that I've experienced - even going back to watching them walk into a pub at an away game and literally throw a child on the floor and break his arm in the 80s) There's a lot of them who have the sense of entitlement - most of them have seen them win as much as I have with Sunderland (nothing other than lower league titles) and a lot stretches back to 1966 so, all in all, they can get ****ed for me and I think they may have got what they deserve in Moyes!!
I don't much like West Ham as a club. The 1966 stuff is quite annoying. However, as someone who goes to around 5 West Ham home games a season, I'd say the cross section of people that you see at the ground is pretty much exactly the same as the cross section of people you see at the SoL.
Strange. I've never had one bit of bother with the Hammers. Infact, one of my best mates who is now dead was a Hammer. Couldn't wish to meet a nicer lass. I think a lot of people go on their reputation & tar them all with the same brush.
They’ve never been a bigger club than us, they just have Bobby Moore and London. Sunderland and Newcastle are far bigger clubs. Moyes will keep them up, same as Bilic would have and he’ll get a free reputation boost for **** all. They’ve a quality squad they were never going down.
It'll be interesting to see how he does with them and how close they get to relegation. You'd expect nowhere near considering their quality but if Moyes hasn't shaken off his negative outlook and they don't start winning games who knows. I'm a big believer in Moyes' ability to ruin a football club.
Not sure about anyone else but I'm not expecting an appointment till atleast Sunday night, Monday morning. Hoping they start interviews asap. Honestly don't know what name we are going to wake up to when it happens. At least it's something to talk about during another vile international break
Aye I speak as I found and I was only a kid when I watched that happen back in the 80's but that's the main point of my deep seated hatred mind!! Things will have moved on since then but the media love-in and "1966" stuff really pisses me off!! They're probably the team I'd most like to see go under after Coventry!!
This was a golden opportunity having sacked Grayson for the club to make a quick appointment and give whoever it is two weeks to get to know the majority of our squad. Of course this is SAFC were talking about who probably got rid of Grayson without having a single clue who his replacement was going to be..typical.
I remember I said they were crazy if they weren't putting feelers out during the last international break to replace Grayson. Nothing looks imminent
