Right lee clarke would be a great capture by the club. But he's only really managed 1 club that already had a strong squad. He came in and didn't manage to get them promoted. Also with huddersfeild he probably had more resource than he would at the gills. Do we know if he has many contacts or could work on a small budget which I assume he would get here. Statistically he sounds good but that was with 1 club at 1 level. It's all good appointing a manager from a higher leage but could he cut it ? I mean guardiola has a good manager record as he has only managed the best club I the world with world class players. Even hessy could do a good job at barcelona. But could guardiola do a good job at league two. Probably not the best comapison but itsall I could think of !

I understand what you mean, but no one is going to defiantly get us into League 1, it is a risk whoever we bring in, so there is something bad you can say about any manager.

Lee Clark - I do not think I have given a view on him as such yet, so here goes. Everything certainly seems positive in the eyes of most Gillingham fans. GFCSTU mentioned it earlier asking if there has been any negative feedback. Well at a very, very brief glance through not606, I could find no negative stuff but certainly could find positive stuff. Although I have seen the possible appointment rightly questioned elsewhere.

I always felt that Huddersfield were one of those teams that always appeared should get promoted but also appeared time and time again, not to make it for some reason. That gives me a slight grey area of concern when you have a possible manager in the wings, coming in to a club that basically have the same traits.

Privately I have heard positive stuff and negative stuff about Lee Clark, none of which I am going to repeat. However, I have to make a balance of judgement and sadly for me it puts him in to no different category than any other appointment, except at the higher end of the scale. With the exception that he may well be better accepted than most other choices, which may well also put valuable bums on seats.

If Lee Clark gets the job, I will be happy the wait is all over and will find every positive to welcome him on board. Sadly though it will not have that Scally surprise element about it, if he should be chosen for me. Therefore I will just be going with the flow, so to speak.

I prefer Gemini's take on things...'comparing this situation with last seasons signings (Whelps and Lee in particular) this could be an indication that we could be about to get a very good manager and Scally doesn't want to alert other clubs to the calibre of the guy coming in (so that he doesn't get pinched)'

...

Sadly Clark does not fit that category for me, although he may do a very good job. I am just starting to wonder if we have a mirror image of Hessy in Clark.

He stats shows what he is capable off. And don't get me wrong I want him as manager. And would think it would be an amazing price of work my mr scally !

Is because this website does not work properly on my iPod. I apologize for my Shocking grammar.

That might explain a lot !
It appears that you, Hoadie & Acworth all use the same ipod !!!! Carry on the good work.

My grammar is quiet good thanks, sometimes where I don't read over what I write, therefore some mistakes may occur. Some of the time I do post through the Android app where my phone likes to change things.
I know sometimes I do write too much without breaking it up, but I personally think my writing is quiet good, it wasn't that good a year ago but I have rapidly improved this year.
By the way, I know I am quiet good from getting an award in sports journalism just before the end of year 11 when I had to submit a report of a recent Gillingham game.

Back on topic

I don't think that we can afford Lee Clark. The clubs' revenue surely won't stretch to attracting people like Clark ?
Have we had to pay off Hess his managers' contract ? ( and Southall )
Our average attendance last year was lower than the previous year - and 1192 lower than when last in L1. Our revenue stream must have suffered. I am sad to say that these facts, ( and there are probably others, ) point to an appointment that is governed by financial restraints - primarily where it concerns not paying a compensation fee ( a la Adams @ Port Vale )

o k - but I think you'll find that BSG wont be happy when he logs on !

ps I'm not the one that has disgraced themselves and been awarded a red card !

Hey don't tell me when to be unhappy :p

On topic, Clark would be my preferred choice but like you I think he would be out of our price range but stranger things have happen, teams have hardly been banging his door down.

who knows always, what money scally has stashed away

and i'd say hess was kept on in the role he now has, so as not to have to pay him off !

Yeah money has been appearing a lot over the last 12 months, **** knows where it come from, maybe it could have been hiding in a bank account across the world.

alwaysright - nothing more than purely assumption but I would have guess that we had no need to pay Hessy compensation, he is still employed with the club (not thought about Southall).

Although our attendances may have been lower than the previous season, I believe we have in turn cut our cloth accordingly so to speak in the running of the club. Although I have no way of measuring player costs.

As for financial restraints, seems another one of those grey areas for me. I thought at the beginning of last season, the purse strings would have been tight and did not expect any signings of significance, the rest is history. Unsure on where that influx of money appeared from within the Chairman's budget and that the financial restraints therefore can only be at an higher level then we believe.

Somewhere in this whole story and maybe the contributing factor is the sale of the ground back to the club. What was the figures? What changed/happened that is not for discussion?
