Well it takes as long as it takes I guess and of course just because we're impatient this doesn't mean that the new manager when offered a contract isn't allowed to take time over the offer and think carefully.

Two years is long term for us at the moment!!
Got to write I am struggling to get excited about any of the potential managers being touted at the moment. AVB twice a failure in the EPL. De Boer - has done well at one wealthy club in the Dutch League - might as well have been at Celtic and got the same level of achievement. Pellegrini may cost too much and look at us as a temporary role until something better comes along. McClaren/Moyse - need I justify why not?
I thought finding a right back and a couple central attacking midfielders plus a new striker was going to be a challenge this summer! Oh! to be a Saints fan...

Not sure you can call Spurs equal highest ever Premier League points total a 'failure'?
Here's the thing with AVB. Very different kind of pressure cooker managing Saints against managing Chelsea/Spurs. I think he got undone by that pressure as much as anything due to his youth and relative inexperience. He went to Spurs with 'something to prove' having been kicked from pillar to post at Chelsea (with all their big-time Charlies and dressing room 'leaders'/disruptors in place) and perhaps tried too hard at Spurs (particularly with the press) - as I say though, he still recorded their equal highest ever points total.
His record at Porto (okay, they are expected to do well, but even so, it's an incredible record) - was better than Mourinho, and I'd suggest that managing Porto in terms of pressure would be relatively similar to managing us. His record at Zenit has been excellent too.
Failure to me would be nearly getting Valencia relegated.....and yet he did a decent job with us.
I actually think Southampton could be perfect for someone like AVB to rebuild his reputation.

Good point - but would temper this by asking what happened thereafter? Is he your choice?
