First boots from Asbestos were plastic wipe clean George Best boots. They squeaked like someone shagging a mouse.

Me too.
Bit of a tangent from asbestos, my mates sister had a Saturday job in Suggs, first customer she served asked for a cricket box, “certainly sir, what would you like to put in it” was her reply!

I'd forgot about Suggs sports .
I remember buying a yellow Everton shirt from there !

Ah, (vague) memory lane, got my first City kit from Asbestos the striped mid 70’s one horrible rough nylon that caused nipple burn. Seem to recall buying them having a bargain bin where I bought the black Adidas Dutch team shorts a’la Mr Cruyff they were wonderful!. Think I’d just got my 3rd paper round so was rolling in it. Like others had the plaggy George Best boots and unless I’m mistaken white Alan Ball trainers from Hammonds. On a side note the newsagents was where I saw a magazine with a lady in it without the bits coloured in - happy days !

I thank you Mr Kempton
Recently finished working self employed, busy long long days so rarely had time to post stuff but now just taking a sabbatical. Mind you don’t want to get embroiled in any of the more heated debates.

I got my first shirt from the sports shop on Newland Ave that's now Planet Coffee - can't seem to recall the name of the place. It was the 1992/93(?) Limited edition Needlers 3rd shirt that had thick black stripes and thin Amber and White ones. Think there was only a thousand or so made. I got it framed along with my first program (28th dec 1993 vs hartlepool - 1nil to Deano).

I want to say White's but I'm not sure. I can picture the place clearly though. He had a rack of shirts where the counter in Planet Coffee is now and they were all odds and sods from previous years for a tenner each. At the same time I got the City shirt I got a white Kansas City Attack shirt made by Bukta and a Norwich kit with green stripes over the shoulder made by Asics.

Given the way 90s shirts have become so collectable, that shop would have been a ****ing goldmine.

The bloke was a nasty racist as well if I recall. When Springbok sports opened down the other end of the Avenue he used to call them "Pakies" and balked at the idea that me and my Dad might shop there. My Dad stopped taking me there after that.
