I just came back from outdoors. It's cold and dark.
Try turning the light on, then the heaters, you will feel a lot better.

I hope you don't mind me joining in, but the FA cup final's 2008 biggest disappointment was the awful all blue strip. We should have played in Blue shirts White shorts and Red socks.
The fact that we used it for the whole following season, was simply too much.
Southampton should be playing in red and white stripes, especially this season. I didn't realise the shorts were red too, what about the socks, are they red as well?
Cortese hasn't moved our club to Milton Keynes...shirt design is ephemeral.
"just different"
So how "just different" would you allow the home kit to be? blue & white ok? You may have a longer limit, or no limit or just don't care, but it does actually mean something to me that the club has gone down this route with the home kit and it saddens me that fans don't attach much significance to our club being known the world over for playing in red & white stripes.
I hope sales of the kit are overall down on last season's and we revert to a proper Southampton FC home kit next season.
Well to me after following saints for over 40 years now ,it's wrong our tradition is red and white strips and should remain so ,the sash argument is invalid as was a one off to celebrate an anniversary ,maybe I'm old fashioned and stuck in my ways but hey my prerogative , can,t understand why people got personal again over a simple question based on choice ,does not bode well for coming season when things get bumpy
I hate the kit so much that next season I shall be turning up stark bollock naked, with my chest painted red and white, my nackers painted black* and my feet painted white.

I have I missed something. I have the kit and as far as I can see it is Red with white stripes (thin white stripes but stripes none the less), so no departure at all. The only change from tradition is the Red shorts and socks, which I'm not bothered about to be honest. I think it makes a nice change.
So do stripes have to be a certain width to count?
The thing for me, is that I don't think we are making a permanent switch. I think the club are trying to make things different enough to give them some commercial benefit. I have no problem with them making a change for a season or two so that fans don't think "oh well, I have last season's kit which is similar so I won't buy another one yet" and they make some more money. People don't have to buy, it is a choice.
As for "how far", well of course I wouldn't accept a change of colour to blue or green or whatever; we are Southampton and we sing "come on you reds". I liked what we did with the sash, as it gave us something different for a season to celebrate an anniversary, and then we returned to stripes.
If the club had announced that for all future kits, we will not have stripes, I would express my concern, however for a change for one or two seasons, I like it. I was a lot younger then, but I don't recall all this fuss over the Patrick kit of the early 80's and that can be called stripes if you like, but hardly Southampton traditional stripes.
It is for commercial gain and I have no issue with the club doing this.

This is a very well thought out post.
How many people, who claim to like this kit, would be happy for it to be used for the foreseeable future, with no return to the famous red and white stripes?
