Get the point you are making, but the search didnt just start 45 days ago. The '120 days' isnt applicable to 'no head coach' as you say, but it doesnt mean there shouldnt of been significant work done in preparation for a post season appointment. I cant give the club the benefit of the doubt by saying they've only had 45 days personally. The amount of time they had with Dodds as interim makes the time its taking post season look even worse from my perspective.
They may well have been working on things. We are led to believe that Maric was to take the job before Still became available, so they must have put some work in to that, and they clearly put together a package to try and tempt Still. The lack of appointment doesn't automatically indicate that they've been doing nothing, it just indicates that they haven't been able to make an appointment.

I'm genuinely concerned we get to a point where Speakman actually HAS to go to convince any manager to take us seriously.

I do want Speakman to go. I don't however want us to get to the point where its a necessity.
Never underestimate the ego of a football manager/coach. There will be plenty out there who believe they are the perfect man for this club.

This is the issue - too many fans think that players and coaches think like fans - players will be worried about the lack of head coach, no decent HC will want to work with Speakman etc etc. It's a job to 99% of them. There will be a long list of people willing to take this job, it's just finding the right one.

Having said all that, some movement this week would be ****ing nice

It’s fair to say that the owner has had 120 days to at least look at candidates.. I find it hard to believe they didn’t put out feelers during the time Didds was in charge.. if that’s the case then 45 days after a 75 day opportunity to scour the market is still way too long

I'm not suggesting they have only had 45 days to look. I'm stating as fact that we haven't had a head coach for 45 days.

I completely agree they should have been looking from the moment Beale was binned, I am working under the assumption Still lead us up the garden path and the club were naive enough to follow with a skip in their step.

We absolutely should have made more progress by now. Lessons need to be learned. What they are, I have no idea given I don't know the ins and outs of how things work behind the curtain.

But I maintain, we had a head coach 46 days ago. This 120 days without a head coach spiel is just melodrama.

Hmmmmm I'm not entirely sure about this as my reason is that the club knew all along that Dodds was not a 'permanent' head coach but rather interim on the basis that it would allow them enough time to learn from mistakes, identify targets, shortlist, interview and agree on an appointment.

They were fully aware that Dodds would be stepping down from the head coach role as soon as he agreed to tale over as interim, they always knew we'd need a new head coach going into this season. Soeakman even mentioned in March at the supporters meeting that they'd began the process to sort the new head coach.

I don't think it's unfair to use 120 days because that's exactly how long they've had since Beale was sacked to sort out a permanent one for this season. Even if we take that interim period for them to 'learn' and evaluate what went wrong, it was in Speakmans own words in March that the process had begun. So even if we use that as a barometer it's been over 70 days.

Either way, I think we can all agree it's not been handled well
but using "120 days" is an irrelevant reference. The club knew that the manager market opens up in the summer and they though they had Still agreed 3-4 weeks ago until he had his head turned.

Had he taken the job, no-one would have been twisting about x number of days

They’ve made so many mistakes in a short space of time like.

I do think they’ve done a lot of good but this appointment and the recruitment need to be bang on.
Trouble is this goes back three transfer windows, without an experienced striker during that time, a proper DM. Apart from the odd few recruitment in that time has been poor. The Beale fiasco also.

Why is "permanent" suddenly important? The club made the decision to put Dodds in place until the end of the season. So the clock starts after the Sheff Wed game
A well run professional club would start the process as soon as Beale got the boot.. it’s inconceivable that our owners let the season run down having not looked and sounded out replacements… but then again it’s Sunderland, so that’s what probably happened

We managed fine last season without CF/DM - largely down to Amad, but last summer's recruitment was naive, bordering on arrogant from Speakman. I hope KLD means what he says when he talks about learning from mistakes.

Ideal situation here is that Regis Le Bris is actually coming in to replace Speakman...

He did manage Lorients academy for years and did a stint as Director of Football.

Then we hire Cifuentes or Maric as head coach.

Speakman being replaced might explain why this **** show has gone on as long as it has.
I'm in.
I love the creativity of some people on this board

They're supposed to have had Maric ready to go before Still became available. So it would appear that they were looking before the season ended.

Yeah, by no means am I saying we've done nothing, but we havent got things over the line for whatever reason and I'd be surprised if those in charge of the process arent at fault for anything.

I get what you were saying mate and agree (there's plenty for people to criticise without being unfair to the club lol). If you want to try and reach for lessons being learned, possibly they panicked when appointing Beale and rushed it but dont want to make that mistake again, must say I am reaching a bit there haha.
