They may well have been working on things. We are led to believe that Maric was to take the job before Still became available, so they must have put some work in to that, and they clearly put together a package to try and tempt Still. The lack of appointment doesn't automatically indicate that they've been doing nothing, it just indicates that they haven't been able to make an appointment.
Never underestimate the ego of a football manager/coach. There will be plenty out there who believe they are the perfect man for this club. This is the issue - too many fans think that players and coaches think like fans - players will be worried about the lack of head coach, no decent HC will want to work with Speakman etc etc. It's a job to 99% of them. There will be a long list of people willing to take this job, it's just finding the right one. Having said all that, some movement this week would be ****ing nice
I'm not suggesting they have only had 45 days to look. I'm stating as fact that we haven't had a head coach for 45 days. I completely agree they should have been looking from the moment Beale was binned, I am working under the assumption Still lead us up the garden path and the club were naive enough to follow with a skip in their step. We absolutely should have made more progress by now. Lessons need to be learned. What they are, I have no idea given I don't know the ins and outs of how things work behind the curtain. But I maintain, we had a head coach 46 days ago. This 120 days without a head coach spiel is just melodrama.
but using "120 days" is an irrelevant reference. The club knew that the manager market opens up in the summer and they though they had Still agreed 3-4 weeks ago until he had his head turned. Had he taken the job, no-one would have been twisting about x number of days
Trouble is this goes back three transfer windows, without an experienced striker during that time, a proper DM. Apart from the odd few recruitment in that time has been poor. The Beale fiasco also.
A well run professional club would start the process as soon as Beale got the boot.. it’s inconceivable that our owners let the season run down having not looked and sounded out replacements… but then again it’s Sunderland, so that’s what probably happened
We managed fine last season without CF/DM - largely down to Amad, but last summer's recruitment was naive, bordering on arrogant from Speakman. I hope KLD means what he says when he talks about learning from mistakes.
They're supposed to have had Maric ready to go before Still became available. So it would appear that they were looking before the season ended.
Yeah, by no means am I saying we've done nothing, but we havent got things over the line for whatever reason and I'd be surprised if those in charge of the process arent at fault for anything. I get what you were saying mate and agree (there's plenty for people to criticise without being unfair to the club lol). If you want to try and reach for lessons being learned, possibly they panicked when appointing Beale and rushed it but dont want to make that mistake again, must say I am reaching a bit there haha.
That is what i was told, Maric was verbally agreed until Still came on the market. But as we well know information has been sketchy at best
Absolutely with such a void of info. There are rumours to fit all agendas at the moment. The end game is going to prove very interesting. To pull a coach out of the hat that can bring everyone together will take some doing
