Despite his record elsewhere, I think the reaction to Challinor would be really bad. He’d be right up against it…

This is from otr and what Carlton Palmer has allegedly said (no idea where, is he on Talksport?).

Strong words from Carlton Palmer

“From what is coming out of the football club, is that you’re not allowed to bring into your coaching staff, you’re allowed to bring in one person and then you’ve got to work within the realms of how they want to run the football club.

“This is their choice, their policy, of bringing in young players in, not really signing senior players and the control that’s taken away from the manager.

“As I’ve said, it’s going to be a very, very difficult appointment because any manager that is worth his salt, unless you’re really desperate to get back into work, you’re only set up to fail under the regime that Sunderland have set up.

“This is disappointing for the supporters, disappointing so close to the season. You’d obviously want to have a manager in place to start getting to work in the transfer market for the upcoming season.
How on earth would Carlton Palmer know
One of my main reservations with Lampard is that we would stop being "Sunderland" and start being "Frank Lampard's Sunderland"
We were Roy Keane's Sunderland when he took over, and he didn't do too bad

Lampard is would be less inspiring for me than a Challinor for example. Just don't think he's very good at all.
If people think Rosenior failed in the championship then look at the squad Lampard had. 6th was a poor return imo and he completely blew the play off final with his tactics, in my opinion.

They had a squad that included Tomori, Lawrence, Mount, Wilson, Knight. Then some great experience in Huddlestone, Martin, Davies, Johnson. For me he was given the squad for top 2 but never got them into an effective group for any run of form. Arguably as well Jody Morris was important on the training pitch.

The way I would see it is, he's good with young players, would have good connections for loans, most of our players will love him as they'll have watched him growing up so he would get respect. He would be hungry to do well too
That’s one way to look at it. The other is that he should have done better with that squad he had at Derby. Strong team at the time.

His Everton spell & Chelsea caretaker spell was very poor too.

I’d be relatively okay with Lampard, but his teams were very open (especially Everton), who now look a lot more solid under Dyche. I’d fear for our defence if he came in and had us open constantly. Unless we sign a top quality CDM and probably another CB.

…as would any coach coming in. I know you’re trying to look for the positives (as you have with every bloke linked) but I just don’t see it with Lampard.

I remember being in disbelief that Jack Marriott didn't start that final after his semi final 2nd leg performance.

Being a good player does not mean you are a good coach, also doesn't mean you know how to pass advice onto players who play a similar position to what you did.

He has no real style of play. 'Connections for loans' is a myth, we signed Amad without a head coach and didn't use Mowbrays good relationship with Liverpool once.

I honestly think he's the worst name linked so far and I include Robinson in that.
