That word keeps cropping up.

It seems people are proposing future possible scenarios then using it to criticise the club.

If we don't buy players, if we don't get a striker, if we don't allow the next manager a degree of autonomy, if all our best players are sold, etc etc etc ...

... I'm all for criticism but it seems there are pre-emptive attacks going in constantly.
A much better word than Why. Like Why didn't we invest in players with experience or Why did we ever consider letting the mags have the BC B . Yep, your right, it's a big word.

Personally speaking I think Speakman being at the head makes sense in a functional sense, not changing things in other parts of the business where we’ve done badly make no sense. People are understandably worried about the latter and and a change of narrative from ‘he’s going’ to ‘he’s staying to do our summer business’ is both reassuring (change at a crucial time is a risk) and worrying. We have no clarity and until then there’ll be a bit of anxiety from those desperate for improvement.

This summers business will have been long in the planning with Speakman right in the middle. Doesn’t make sense to change now, that would come after a window has closed and you do your review. Bringing someone else in with no time to prepare would be a calamity and setting up for failure. I don’t believe timing of Mowbray’s exit was planned for and look how that turned out. Still waiting to recover from that one.

Exactly. Why? We don't know why, so shouldn't make assumptions.
Technique that was used around my work for a while was the 5 Why’s. Keep asking why until you dig right down to root cause. Why didn’t we bring experienced players in? Because it didn’t fit the budget. Why didn’t it fit the budget? Crappy commercial deals from L1, FFP and wanting to be self sufficient. Why the crappy deals - inherited from last regime. Why FFP? We almost went out of business under Short but he did the honourable thing and paid off most of them. Why self sufficiency? KLD may be rich but he’s no fool. Etc.
Ask Why just the once and blame lands too easily in the wrong place like those given the task of sticking to a strategy and budget.

That's an excellent policy. And I agree with your answers and the last sentence completely.

Great post, that. Will probably start using that myself.
