Speak to me and you would never guess I was from Peterlee.
I've spent all my adult life living in Germany (ex army) or in the south of England.
I would describe my accent as a neutral southern accent, which is why my family and friends in the NE think I am really posh.

No one who hails from Peterlee can ever be described as posh!! <laugh>
I’m not from Peterlee but went to school at Shotton Hall 83-88. You were only posh if you lived in Oakerside Park!!

The youngest player in his squad with significant minutes is 23, and speaking from personal experience dealing with Mansfield players this season they do not appreciate the youth.
I was referring more to his history in the game. Harsh to say he hates youth in my opinion. From memory at Derby he gave Hughes and Hendrick their chance as teenagers. I am sure he had Bennett in as a 15 year old or something as well. Cant remember the name but he brought in the Spanish lad that played for Boro as a CB when he was very young too.

League two is a rough old league. I know there are some good young lads like Pye at Stockport, but I suspect there are a predominance of mid 20s plus. Takes some getting out of. I kmow there is a young CB at Mansfield they think a lot of, names escapes me.

I am pleased if Mansfield have a good academy giving Clough a headache. It has been a bit of a slog to get the facility but hope it is paying dividends. I kmow they worked bloody hard for cat3 status which is no mean feat. Have spent a bit of time up there myself in the last 6 or so years, good bunch of coaches working hard.

Why are we talking about Nigel Clough? Granted I’ve not read every page but nobody is seriously suggesting he’d be good here right?
Not really mate. Started off as a suggestion for an older head who might have a role in the academy or similar. Been confused a bit over posts into whether he is ready for our main job. Not the reason we are discussing him. Just a bit more debate to while away the hours while we dont have a head coach to argue about...

Shocking list of managers there, only Alex Neil & Tony Mowbray did a good job when you think about it.

Was about to say as much. Absolute head scratchers. Special mention for Parkinson, who thought that when he stood on the touchline seemingly absolutely clueless,he'd end up world famous on Disney Plus. I genuinely can't watch that Wrexham ****e anymore.

Sadly I now speak fluent French but my Durham accent took a battering in the 15 years over there ...

... I cringe when people, at the matches, ask where I'm from and why I support Sunderland.

It hurts to be honest, something I was always proud of <wah>
I sound like a generic northerner. Decades in Manchester then Yorkshire and work part time in the north east. All three come out in the same sentence.

I'd have Clough here in some capacity in a second. Overly romantic, yes...sentimental, yes and also with some merit based on previous performance. Football is romantic though...and a bit rock n roll when its fun. I'm in the process of qualifying as a data analyst, data and stats defo matter, but sometimes, and more often than not in my opinion, when it works it just works...and that can be just because someone is a good fit. See Reid, Keane, McCarthy, Neil etc etc. We shouldn't try and sterilize football too much.

The sterlisation of football chimes with me mate. I wonder where we are going sometimes. Last season was my last coaching in academies. Not really my choice, but I space needed to be made. I do worry about our games future.

I have seen huge value in data, stats and some of the modern methods re physical science. It is a brilliant tool. Sadly I have seen it become to dominant in 1 or 2 instances, in my opinion anyway.

I guess it is progress, in some ways anyway. All sports seems to be progressing with science. No problem with that. But...

Football is a human game, with human oddities. It is art in its purest form for mez or it should be. An instinctive sport, played by instinctive people. I have always encouraged players to warm up their brain before they warm up their muscles. Football is a game played with brains not brawn.

Who knows where we end up. I really do like some of the younger ideas, and they dont need old knackers like me interfering. I do worry though we end up with a sterilised game, as you put it. I think are travelling that path. Would a Gaza emerge today, I really dont think so. Waddle the same. Loads of others.

Sorry folks. Had a drink, and not stopping. Ignore my old fart ramblings if you are forging your way in the game. Rose tinted glasses melded to my face.

Hang on....I've absolutely no idea whatsoever what your response is alluding to...

Moved on?.....The Club looking forwards?.....Dragging it backwards?.....Sentimentality?......A guy who has been gone twenty years?

Wtf are you presuming that I'm suggesting like?.....What the hell are going on about man?

Disco....calm the **** down man!

I'm talking about what he has done over his career with smaller clubs than ours. I'm talking about the respect he has gaind from his peers. I'm talking abpout his character. I'm talking about his knowledge and love of the game. I'm talking about his man management skills with lower teams. I'm talking about his personality. I'm talking about the respect he has gained so far throughout his career etc,

I'm NOT suggesting that he manages our firt team tomorrow FFS !

And therefore, look at our last 13 managers or caretaker managers since Chris Coleman in 2018 -

Other than Mogga, have the rest pulled up many trees?

Robbie Stockdale
Jack Ross
James Fowler
Phil Parkinson
Andrew Taylor
Lee Johnson
Mike Dodds
Alex Neil
Martin Canning
Mogga
Dodds
Beal
Dodds

Ha'way son, are you telling me that Nigel Clough has NO CHANCE of offering some kind of positivity to our club in some capacity, even at youth level (at least) OR, has less respect and knowledge in the game to man-manage the kids, than those listed above?..........Really?

Give your heed a wobble son...

Wow !....ha ha ha...

We can't just hire ex players and ex players kids out of sentimentality and sentimentality alone.

It's not a complicated notion and its certainly not a suggestion you write an incoherent essay filled with non-sequiturs.

I probably shouldn't have responded to you. I apologise for that.

<doh>

As said above, so many times, it was simply a random suggestion for someone with a huge amount of knowledge to work with kids in the Academy at some point in the future...nothing else.

But you just didn't seem to, and still don't understand that, do you?

Take care...

No. Your profound wisdom is far beyond comprehension to my small and fragile mind, thank you Gandalf.

But if his role was to work with the Academy, he would be an asset imo.
The academy sides have been very good this season and seem to be adopting a very dynamic style of play, I don't think we need to disrupt that too much and TBH with a new Head coach coming in it is his style of play that will need to be adopted. Murty seems to be doing a great job and I see no reason to disrupt this in any way unless he and the new head coach cannot see eye to eye.
Clough for me is an experienced lower tier manager who may find himself working as a coach in years to come but there are a lot of ex players and managers with a similar record of not quite achieving what was expected of them and that is probably how he found himself at Mansfield and not Man Utd.
IMO he seems an honest hard working football man but is not what we need or require at our club at this time.

VAR is the epitome of how the game is being ruined.

Sometimes in a poor sterile game the only burst of excitement is a brilliant goal.

As things are now the celebrations are instantly muted by VAR.

The goal is eventually allowed and the fans give a half-hearted cheer.

The decision is then argued about as much, often more, than it was when a referee decided in real time.

Sometimes, when I'm checking live scores there'll be a goal click up ...

... followed by the score being changed five minutes later, it's an absolute shambles.

If, and I know bugger all by the way, we do get Still, I expect to see things change, he will have been sold a vision by KLD which doesnt entirely consist of kidnapping children from other countries to play for us. I for one will be very excited if it is Still
