I know what you mean but I'm hoping for the complete opposite. I'd expect a good coach to simplify everything for the players so they all know their individual and collective roles.

Football doesn't have to be complex ...

... just players in positions theyre good in, one way to play in possession and one out of possession plus the need to go for goals or defend a lead or whatever.

These young lads have had so much information thrown at them, by so many managers, their heads must be spinning. In the Southampton game we had three different formations and having fought back to 2-2 abandoned all three and gave them two goals.

It all needs to calm down, and I'm including the supporters in that. These endless calls to get rid of managers, coaches, staff, even the owner, are becoming ridiculous.

Football is a team game from top to bottom ...

... I think it's time to remember that.
I read someone say about Maric that one of the things that makes him stand out is that he can make complex ideas sound simple.

Maric himself said that if you can’t explain complex ideas in simple terms then it’s because you don’t really understand them yourselves.

I hope you are right Smug and that these young coaches are not making these instructions to young players too complex and are given time to implement them. I just remember Johnson with his buzz words. It all very exciting and looking forward to the end of the season to see who we get in as manager coaches and players all. Next season is huge for us but then they always are.

Cracking post Smug lad

He’s got a point tbf.
I've got way ahead of myself as I don't think this is even a particularly reliable rumour but I've been down a Maric related rabbit hole and everything I see, hear and read from him and about him is class. Not even from him being a good head coach here perspective, just that he comes across as a really articulate, intelligent, good, kind, sensible and all-round sound bloke.

I've read maybe 10 of the pieces he's wrote on his blog, seems to have an unbelievable football brain and I'm already excited. Hopefully there is substance to the rumour and he is announced soon.

By his own admission, those blogs are a bit of an information dump. Just getting ideas on a page, he acknowledges they're not written or presented particularly well and that some of his theories were naïve but that he's constantly learning and evolving. He was incredibly prolific with them, churning out loads.

He does have a good football brain but he also seemingly values the human element, management and interaction above all else - often a shortcoming in particularly technically elite people.

I'm not his agent by the way! ;)

If you think I’m going to be drawn in by comments like this you are absolutely right !

I’d love to have a coach who is proper obsessed about football, tactics and Sunderland !
