Whoever it is, I hope it's a big character as that will help them do well here.

They don't have to be exuberant like Big Sam. Reid, Keane and Mowbray all had a lot about them that the fans could get behind.

Beale wasn't a big character and Dodds - who seems like a great bloke - isn't someone who can unite or inspire a fanbase.

i'd stay excited i'd say, feel like there is far too many people hearing the same for it to be wrong (hopefully)
I'm not saying it is or isn't true that he's coming but I wouldn't put too much stock in lots of people saying the same thing, it tends to be how the internet and local sports reporting goes now. Someone like that Spezial73 twitter account, who is perceived to have got a few things right, states it for whatever reason, a few message board 'ITKs' scour Twitter hang on his coat tails and 'report' the same thing hoping to get a bit of credit if it comes off, local press see these accounts on message boards all saying the same thing so report that 'sources say' or such like and then someone like Nixon runs with it.

Once the likes of The Athletic or L'Equipe or even Fabrizio Romano start reporting is when my cynicism disappears.

That's not saying there's not genuine ITKs with info mind.

I don’t read a lot about coaches or players before they arrive and glad I’ve kept to that this time. People were sure it was Still last week. Then Maric. Someone certain it’s Cooper . We’ll see.

If he said we'd spoken to him in December then it may be cause for concern.
Thought we sounded out potential head coaches in spring last year, but that was all on the back burner by summer as Mowbray triggered an extension.
Someone somewhere online said he was spoken to and maybe even offered the job around Beale time

Agree with all of this. Especially considering (I think) that Spezial guy is just the fly me to the moon fella who used to post on here fishing for news.

Rather than character I would say leader. That’s the one area I would definitely say he’s lacking and Beale was badly lacking. Keane had it in spades, Mowbray too in a different way. I’m also of a mind that when some on here are saying experience is what’s needed it’s actually someone with leadership they’re after.

I know how that conversation would go:

JD: "Hi Kristjan. Can I have the job"
KS: "No"

I agree with KS. He's got no chance of being offered the Head Coach role. Could he be 'offered' to Maric as a number 2 though? 'Football man' and a few years experience as part of the coaching team at a Premier League club and knows the club well.

Really don't want someone forced upon the new guy for the sake of it.

I don't see it with Defoe personally. he strikes me as one of those players it came quite naturally to and I don't think that always translates to coaching. I almost feel like you need the people who had to scrap for it because it meant they really had to learn the game.
