It's funny how short the collective memory is. Well into the 50s, if not later, British clubs had Managers or Secretary Managers whose job was administrating the team(s), dealing with transfers etc. In effect, they were a bit like a Director of Football. Coaching and preparing the team was carried out by the Head Coach. Managers who got involved in coaching were a rarity and it was from them that the term 'Tracksuit Manager' was coined. Things are just going full circle. The only difference being that, in Britain, there was no tactical thought involved as everyone was wedded to the WM.

Beale was a disaster as a head coach/manager.
Rangers 3rd in a 2 horse race - aye let's give him the safc job.
OGS is a different level altogether to Beale and Dodds/Proctor shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence but somehow they are thanks to Speakmans shortcomings.

From my interpretation Clough was basically an incredibly charismatic DoF/front man and Peter Taylor the tactician/coach between the two.

Style of play was awful, didn't win a trophy and lost multiple finals/semi finals, multiple embarrassing defeats such as; 0-5 v Liverpool, 4-1 v Watford and 1-6 v Spurs, losing home games to the likes of Burnley, Palace (twice) and Sheff Utd, having the worst start to a season in Man Utd history, having the worst run of home games without a clean sheet since the 50s.

And thats not to mention his very questionable handling of the Babacar Sarr cases while at Molde.

A lot of the head coach problems have been down to the poor summer recruitment. Speakman must have thought it was good if Mowbray was, to him, complaining without valid reasons. Then it spiralled to Beale and Dodds from there. It's so frustrating that the summer signings weren't what we needed to give the coaches a chance.

They haven't pissed any of my goodwill away. The reaction to Beale was ridiculous and embarrassing. He wasn't the greatest appointment but he certainly wasn't anywhere near as bad as some people have made out. If the next manager gets the same response, we'll never get anywhere.

I would prefer to get rid of the fans who got him the sack to be honest.

It really is embarrassing <laugh> Hopefully we sign a proper captain in the summer anyway. Get a proper centre half in and bench O’Nien.

I like the work John Mousinho has done at Portsmouth. Some turnaround he has achieved with that club. He is one to watch, and would not be averse to him if the club are keen on a young coach.

Another is Michael Skubala who has come out of Leeds and gone into Lincoln and had a very bright start. Heard some very good things about him.

Lincoln have been on an unbelievable run! Decent chance of winning the play-offs if they sneak in.

Skubala is a very interesting one. I think his breadth of experience (even if it is mostly under the radar) would be a real asset. I'd like to see us give someone like him a chance. My fear would be that his profile, or lack thereof, would count against him.
