He’s supposed to build the team man, and he just got tonked 5-0 off another **** team in Burnley. They lost 11 of 14 games he was in charge. Again though having your cake and eating it, “a promotion winning team is a combination of a good coach and a good team” yet one that struggles isn’t a combination of both, it’s just the players fault.
Of course its a combination of both; as I said in an earlier post, in a team that is relegated the group as a whole aren't good enough. But that doesn't mean that the individual elements within that group aren't good as individuals. But as I said in another earlier post, the success of a coach/manager is directly related to the quality of the players available to him. This is why recruitment is such a big deal. If it wasn't, Pep wouldn't need his recruitment team to be signing players for £100m, he could just pick 11 blokes off the street and still win the league.

You said in response to my quote claiming he was sacked because he failed with, “Or he was sacked because the players were failing”. Not “ AND because the players were failing” but now it’s a combination of both , thanks for confirming that the coach and the team were **** in that first 14 games. Which is why I don’t want someone with such a **** record because I want to make a fist of it, when we get there. His record pro rata over a season would have been about 14 points, forgive me for wanting better than that.

He alone shouldn't be credited with promotion. He was part of a collective that won promotion and part of a collective that weren't good enough for the league above. He didn't fail because they were in 20th place, the group as a whole weren't good enough. Managers know that they will be the fall guy if their team struggles but this is a short-sighted and naive view. Just because his team weren't doing well, it doesn't automatically make him a bad coach. If the other parts the group aren't up to it, there is only a limited amount he can do.
Totally agree. It's so simplistic and stupid to say, for example, Rosenior, is crap cos he missed out on play offs by a couple of points. Loads of factors and just cos it didn't work for someone at one place doesn't mean he won't be good elsewhere. And the opposite too.

You could say the same about Steve Evans then, or any manager. That would be stupid and simplistic
I mean no manager can be a failure cos of other factors

Well this has been all very amusing. Still believing in the Magnus info me and nothing said on twatter has changed my mind. It was said on here earlier that there is probably a contractual reason why Sunderland won’t announce Still until a certain date i.e. comp due to Reims. So yes Sunderland will have wanted to shut the Wicky story down but not able to admit that Still is in the bag. Makes more sense than some of the crap I’ve read.

I agree we should do our business quietly but it’s brutal out there at the moment and the frenzy that has been built up is something I’ve never ever seen, even by our fanbase’s standards

Gotta be honest here mate.

We have 50,000 supporters most of whom are occupied with half term, holidays, work, etc ...

... the few hundred getting hysterical on forums are the exception, not the rule.

I don’t see why he’d leave West Brom to come to us. They love him there and finished significantly higher than us last season. Would make little sense

Disagreements with owners? Told he's got to sell players before bringing in others? Told there's no money to spend at all? Head turned by approach from another club and doesn't feel valued there anymore? Feels he's took them as far as he can and want to try somewhere with more potential? Could be any reason he wants to leave, IF he wants to leave, but I'd take FI with a pinch of salt. And that's not even saying he'd come here, just if he wants to leave there could be various reasons why and that somewhere else might be a better "fit" if he wanted to.

I have it on authority from my mate Roger who is on holiday in Lower Largo, that his mate who lives on the south side of the Forth, in the heart of Lothian, Derek William Dick will be making an announcement on his Podcast at 6pm tomorrow.

The theme of the podcast will be.
