I think you have a point about there being coaches out there who may well be better than Still. There has been plenty of hype about him, I'd seen pieces about him on BT and on BBC (I think) and read several articles, long before he was linked to us. I think this has created a bit of an aura around him, that maybe isn't a true reflection of his competence. I would have thought that there are people out there are at least as good as him who haven't had the same level of recognition. I think the fact that he's had that level of hype is one of the reasons that the club like him. After the Beale situation, it will look good for them to be able to say "we've landed one of the hottest properties in European football".

Not that often I disagree with you but I do on almost every aspect of your post <laugh>

I think we've all become a little too likely to think the club are pandering to our whims when, in reality, they simply want progress and out of a league that costs millions just to stand still. This is clearly a massive appointment after everything that's happened and the club, like most Championship clubs, is desperate to get to the PL.

A bit of short lived 'buzz' isn't what we need, this is a serious business and the entire club rests on this appointment.

In my opinion we're trying to get away from ' competent' managers like Mowbray, Rosenior, Heckingbottom, etc. I can't imagine KLD, who can communicate in various languages, found it too impressive watching Mowbray shuffle into press conferences then moaning about all these foreign lads he can't get through to. It's not just the 'language barrier' in my opinion, it's a naturally blinkered outlook in methods, preparation, training, etc.

Hull have had 'success' by grinding out results, that's true, but they'd have just been another Sheff Utd in the PL ...

... I'd feel really flat if we appointed either of Sheff Utd's last two managers, or Hull's, time for a change imo.

Agree. He probably wants hus own coaches but we ate insusting Dodds and Proctor

The club have shown they'll sack people who don't show the ability to make progress ...

... why would those two have total immunity when the club want out of a league that costs a fortune.

KLD wants action and PL football not just trundling along with the likes of Bolton and Bristol.

I think Rosenior would be as good a choice, although I probably know less about him than I do about Still. I think Still, because of the hype, makes a statement to everyone who claims the club aren't ambitious.

Sometimes hype alone is enough to create a persona that were going to do well, which then filers through to the players who feel confident, which then filters through to fans who think we have something here ...if that filters through to creating a little momentum we have all seen what this club is capable of.....problem then comes if the foundations are built in sand/hype alone we have also seen how this club can drop like a stone, eg Martin O'Neill cup tie with Everton, flying till that point that defeat should not have resulted in the form that followed. BSA leaving, real hype, Doctor Doom comes....we know what happened next

I don't rate Roy Keane as an exceptional tactician, don't think he likes watching training sessions or endless videos of the opposition ...

... his greatest asset was the hype around him.

Very good example, he walked through the door at a time the club were on their knees, last day of transfer window was mental, whole world woke up & noticed it, press conferences....i remember we played (i think) West Brom away (TM's side?) & i said to my mate, get a point here & were looking well, decent point away from home ... Keane walks into the press conference asked a similar question, bites back at interviewer.... Sunderland football club go nowhere for a point....we won....not often a managers expectations are higher than supporters.....Will Still comes across maybe not quite as much aura but i doubt he has low expectations

Still isn't a Wayne Rooney, at a loose end after packing up playing, and too thick to be a pundit ...

... he's a Mourinho who's made coaching and management his career and I'm guessing he'll do whatever it takes.

I think that's what the club needs, someone with that type of aura and belief about them who'll grab the club by the balls and insist that we're better than all the other teams (whether we are or not)

Agree, i think KLD is smart enough to look outside of the box & smart enough to have people round him to do due diligence.... queue people bringing KS into this.....quite simply in my mind we have a plan, a long term plan, its only completed year 3, no plan was ever going to be plan sailing, mistakes or at times maybe not mistakes, just potential wont be reached....more mistakes (whatever) are likely to occur earlier doors in a plan.....the 5 year plan was to be promoted to the PL, we have 2 years left on that, may take 3 or more....but im sure once there a new 5 year plan/target will be outlined.....has this club ever come out previously & said the plan is xyz? I cant remember one, the main plan we have ever had was a season at a time

Quite right mate.

Having a 5 year plan with a club that was quite stable would be one thing ...

... KLD has had to rebuild this club, from top to bottom, while trying to get the football side sorted.

The wrong owner, after Donald, could've been catastrophic.

I think this is exactly what it needs. We've not heard a jot since the season finished.

A small statement saying something like "We thank the fans for their support this season and their continued patience whilst the process to appoint a new manage continues.

We have identified a number of targets, and we hope to have concluded the process to appoint a new head coach in the coming days/weeks etc..."

Doesn't say a lot but at least says something and shows an acknowledgement from the club that the fans are getting understandably Restless.
Don’t think the club gives one jot if the fans are getting restless tbh. In fact I don’t think they care about us at all

And they shouldn't regarding appointment part if they know its taking time to get the right man in....if the club were getting restless thinking about the fans they could bring in Rooney or whoever else they could quickly get through the door....im restless to an extent but also want/need the club to get this right
