I suppose we are at least all used to this annual speculation Jamboree!
I know the square root of sod all about most of them and even if I did, I'd probably pick the wrongun. But a big appointment this one, as the last two seem to have been ""reaction" picks. This one seems to have been coming a while, so it's a big one.
Luckily for my sanity I don't hear owt from anyone, so I'll just wait and see. But, I did hear once!
Going back to the seventies this. I can't remember which manager had gone, but I was seeing a girl who's dad knew Doug Weatherall, the old reporter on NE football. She told me that Brian Clough was going to be the manager. After choking on my beer, I asked her how she could know something like that, as she had zero interest in sport.
I never believe it really. But It turns out later that Doug had lined him up, Clough was keen, the club were interested and then bottled it. He did this more than once and by the time we wanted Clough, ( We wanted him!!! as if we'd lower ourselves!) , he told us where to shove it. Clough was at his peak at the time of the approach and Doug later mentioned all this in public.
Looks like we are better ran now, and maybe if we see a chance we are able to take, we'll take it.
