Benitez is 16/1, the same as Heckingbottom. Who the f**k has put money on that? :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Hmm. Is it better than we get the right man to fit with the club's model, or do we bring in the best coach we can? Genuine question...

In Neil and Mowbray we had 2 very good managers/coaches who weren't fully accepting of the supposed model and both were destined to rail against the regime in different ways. In Beale we apparently had a coach fully aligned, but completely ****e (although he too moaned about recruitment)

Doesn't make practical or professional sense to allow him to be involved in the head coach search and also the transfer window if we are going to sack him afterwards. Nobody can answer how that would be a positive thing, nobody can tell me who would be running recruitment if he was leaving in September, nobody can tell me what model we would be working under if the creator of the model is being sacked, nobody can tell me how it makes sense to bring in a new DoF and force them to work with a head coach they didn't select. So please, explain how allowing him to be involved in the most important summer in the clubs recent history makes sense if we are going to remove him in September?

Beale was the only one not to bring in an assistant. Dodds has been here as 1st team coach (or other title) under Johnson, Neil & Mowbray so there should be no reason why Rosenior doesn't bring his own man in with him. It would be foolish not to bring in someone you know and trust

completely agree. the only stumbling block, which I hope is easily overcome, is that Dodds was "promoted" under Beale, so would need to accept a new job as a first team coach, or leave.

I'm all for the new manager bringing in his own assistants and even players from his previous club ...

... but there's a worrying precedent we should also bear in mind.

David Moyes wasted tens of millions and left us in a total mess which is far worse than the current situation.

Managers should have control but they can't be allowed to totally change the structure or the club ...

... if they fail they can just walk away and never look back.

Not that I don’t agree but on the other hand if we have a preferred style of football and players signed by a DoF to align with that philosophy then we need to going all out to make sure we find a manager who can implement that and has experience playing that kind of football/formation. I don’t really think we’ve signed players to fit a system as of yet it seems like we’ve just signed players because we see an opportunity to make money and try to fit them in as best we can. To then ask a manager to come in and forget everything he knows to accommodate our style with players he has no say on is a tough task.

If we get 'the model' (sick of this term now) right, it shouldn't be a problem to recruit the best head coach for the system. We've got to get that right though. There's no point appointing someone, no matter how good they are considered to be, if they don't want to work as part of that system.

You never answered any question you just kept saying 'keep the faith'.

Is it just not worth posting anymore on here? Its meant to be a forum where concerns are expressed, rumours are discussed, praise is rightly given and fans just having general chat about the club. Why does that get turned into 'flapping' or being 'vexed'? I'd understand if I was being dramatic or my concerns were unsubstantiated or weren't backed up my people within the game. It's ****ing pointless posting.

My personal reason for thinking the current best option is for Speakman to go in September is because I think it would be too disruptive now. Need the season to be underway and recruitment done.

Yes. A change in DoF has to happen at the end of one recruitment cycle and before the next one starts.

It's just football mate, if managers can't 'flex' a little we shouldn't even consider them.

I'm growing a little tired of hearing that managers are turning us down because they can't have things all their own way.

These people may be someone who would have Sunderland as the biggest club they've ever managed or ever likely to.

I'd imagine the club make their situation clear at first contact so it's down to candidates to walk away without wasting our time.

There seems to be a shift if people's perceptions and are realising that those like Still are, at least, as much to blame for delays.

This is a great club and they should show us some respect imo.

I imagine KS will oversee the managerial appointment etc. I don’t think it’ll be purely down to him this summer either. If he is to leave it’s most likely going to be in a transitional way. These things don’t happen over night. It took Norwich 6 months for there sporting director to go after announcing his departure
