I wasn't making it out to be a fairy tale at all. They were in trouble when he arrived at Hull and they were well clear by the end of the season. He did a job similar to Cifuentes has just done at QPR, who many are raving about. The next season he took Hull to 7th. Prior to Hull he did a good job at Derby, according to their fans and most accounts. So, he has done a good job in his coaching roles so far, not spectacular but good. He's a bright lad and would know where he went wrong in not getting Hull 6th. I think he could be a really good appointment.
They were 2nd in the league after 6 matches then lost 4 on the bounce dropping to 20th when they sacked the gaffer. Probably a knee jerk decision to sack the manager at such an early stage of the season so it’s difficult to say they were in trouble when a win or two would’ve had them climb right back up the table. He was in charge for 28 games that season and only won 8 of them so there was definitely room for improvement and more than long enough to do so.
Underwhelming for me like if he can’t do a job with that Hull squad I can’t see how he’d do better here, most of their best Xl last season would walk into our team.
