Been watching Years and Years, think it's been excellent and an example of how good BBC stuff has been this last 12 months. Russel T Davies really knows how to create drama, though the affair storyline was a little wayward.
Chernobyl was both haunting and stunning. It felt like you couldn’t watch but you must.
The wife’s Aunt in North Frod used to take a couple of kids in for a few weeks a year just to give them a decent break. One got married a couple of years ago in Belarus and her aunt got invited to the wedding. Very heartwarming.
Wunt surprise me if they were pining for Cherno after a couple of days in Brid
Just drive past and carry on to Scarboro or Whitby is what I tend to do !
Shame really as a used to go to Brid a bit !
They felt at home in Hull as it was just as vibrant as Chernobyl. After they evacuated it that is,
Not read the thread but Chernobyl is one of those rare shows where the hype is justified. Brilliant stuff.
Aye I've just watched it over the past 3 nights. Very very good indeed.
It amazes me that Birdbox or whatever it was called had more hype. That was a total damp squib.
I don't think Bird Box did have more hype - Chernobyl was just having it's advertising campaign whilst Game of Thrones was about to return and while it was on, so it felt like it was pushed down the pecking order a bit. Outside of Netflix I don't remember seeing much Bird Box hype to be honest.

Birdbox had lots of social media hype which is what I meant. Should have made it clearer. Twitter, Facebook etc was filled with Birdbox hype. For me at least.
Watched the whole series yesterday and really loved it. Of particular interest to me as I met and worked in the nuclear industry with my previous husband at Windscale/Sellafield for several years prior to leaving England in 1966. Was there in 1957 at the time of the accident leading to the release of radio activity into the surrounding area.
The accident in a small experimental reactor occurred around a change of shift and resulted in a runaway reaction with the top of the reactor being blown off with subsequent radiation escaping into the atmosphere. So some similarity to Chernobyl!
It was the most stimulating job I have ever had, being PA to the Research Manager with my husband working as a Research Engineer.
I agree, I was very disappointed, as there was some hype on Twitter about it, but was a total disappointment to me. Watchable, but only just.
Planned to make my first visit to Bridlington when I was last in Hull in 2010. Was part of a day trip to also see Bempton Cliffs, Goathland(I love Heartbeat), Whitby and Scarborough organised by my sister-in- law. Spent too much time at Bempton Cliffs, Goathland and Whitby(queuing at The Magpie) and as we had to be back in Hull for a family event had to miss out on Bridlington on our way home via Scarborough
My husband worked when a student in the 50's at a fish restaurant in Bridlington on the Esplanade(2 summer seasons) followed by a summer season in Scarborough. Yardley Tiger also worked with him in Bridlington for one summer season.
Brid - my fond memory is this... a brilliant summer season...
'64 and my parents spotted me with a cig in my mouth as I was collecting fares on the back of a bumper-car on the ride in Brown's Amusements.
It did not go down well being a 17 year old staying away for the summer for the first time.
Good job they never got wind of me waking up in a farmer's field just outside Driffield after a particular heavy drinking session - a bloody cabbage patch to boot.
Never found out what happened to the lass I was with that night !
The jukebox in the cafe attached to the Brown's Arcade was salvation...

Whitby is by far the nicest of the three, though The Magpie is no longer the best fish & chip restaurant, just the most famous.
