Over the past week or so, I've been watching The OA. It's really weird, really drawn out and it could have ended anywhere after the first episode and the ending would have been just as odd. Though the girl was getting on my nerves by the end, so at least I'm glad it ended with her getting shot.
Watched Knock Down The House last night, a behind the scenes documentary about four women who challenge big-money politicians in the 2018 race for Congress. They were well intentioned, but not really very good, apart from Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who was very good (it would have been better if the show was just about her). Also watched Devil At The Crossroads this morning, the story of Robert Johnson (one of the most influential musicians of all time), well worth a watch.
Ask AOC about her campaign finance violations. She's good intentioned, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt on that, but she hasn't got a clue, about almost anything. The rise in her profile has been unbelievable, but we won't get into politics....
Crikey – you could say that about past (and present) US Presidents too. I’m not commenting on AOC’s ability, nor want to further a politics discussion. But as she doesn’t come from the elites (like a Bush or a Clinton for instance), she will get challenges and scrutiny regarding things the others would get a free pass for.
Anyone been watching Chernobyl on HBO/Sky Atlantic? Holy ****, even though I know the ending, I've not watched something that nerve wracking and tense in a while. I'm now also horribly afraid of acute radiation sickness. I hope I never have to suffer that fate.
Just watched Devil at the Crossroads, really interesting story. One thing I learnt was the Juke rooms, I assume that is where Jukebox came from?
It was. They were called juke joints. All the blues great, Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf etc started playing in them in the segregation days. Juke came from a word meaning rowdy.
Aye, I thought that was interesting as well, apparently they were the go to places for music, drinking, dancing, gambling and prostitution. I'm looking for a site to relaunch one here...
I'm watching it now, it's still weird, but I like Kingsley Ben-Adir, so I'm enjoying it more. Though it's slightly odd that they've got a British bloke, playing an African-American, who's supposed to be an Arab.
If you are interested in these things and blues, have a look at Sidemen: A Long Road To Glory On Sky Arts on catchup. Reality interesting stuff, most enjoyable thing I've watched for a while. Good story about how the guitarist came to play for Muddy Waters after falling through a window on to him at a juke joint they wouldn't let him into when he was 14. Well worth watching.
Anyone watching The 100 season 6? I won't spoil it but there is a huge WTF moment in S06e04. Makes GOT seem tame.
It's absolutely ****ing brutal. That most recent episode... ****ing hell. I think I'll take a bullet straight away if that **** is going to happen me.
Sounds brutal but a lethal injection would have been quicker and far less painful. A great series that really shows what happened.
